Cardinals seek 5th consecutive win over Giants

The Giants have a commanding 80-46-2 all-time record against the Cardinals but haven’t beaten them since 2011.

The Arizona Cardinals and the versions of the team in St. Louis and Chicago are very familiar with the New York Giants. They have been playing each other since 1926. They have faced each other 128 times.

They were in the same division in the NFC East for a long time.

The Giants have dominated the all-time series but not recently.

While they hold an all-time 80-46-2 lead over the Cardinals, they have not beaten Arizona since 2011.

The Cardinals have won four straight matchups and five of the last six.

Let’s look at the last few matchups.

Cardinals have had sack parties against Daniel Jones, Giants

In two games against the Cardinals, Daniel Jones has been sacked 14 times. He was sacked seven times in Week 1 and AZ had six vs. Washington.

The Arizona Cardinals’ pass rush was surprisingly good in Week 1. They sacked Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell six times. The six sacks came from five different players.

In Week 2, they will host the New York Giants and face quarterback Daniel Jones, a player the Cardinals have had pass-rushing success against in the past.

Jones has faced the Cardinals twice in his career. He is 0-2 and has been sacked 14 times in those two games.

It’s hard to connect previous Cardinals defenses to this year’s unit and whether or not the Cardinals can repeat that sort of success, but the pattern is there.

They have sacked Jones a lot.

They had six sacks in Week 1. Jones was sacked seven times by the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1. The Giants could be without left tackle Andrew Thomas, who has a hamstring injury.

Combine all those things and you potentially have a recipe for another sack party for Arizona.

Giants injury report: T Andrew Thomas, TE Darren Waller sit out Wednesday practice

We have the details of the Giants’ first injury report of the week.

The Arizona Cardinals face the New York Giants this week in their home opener. They had a few players on the first injury report of the week, but their list is small compared to the Giants’ first one of the week on Wednesday.

Two players — two starters — were out of practice Wednesday and another eight players were listed as limited.

The details of New York’s first injury report are below.

James Conner limited on Cardinals’ 1st injury report of Week 2

Cardinals RB James Conner begins the week limited. WR Hollywood Brown and TE Zach Ertz are not on the injury report.

The Arizona Cardinals began the week of practice preparing for the New York Giants with a few more injuries than they had last week to open the season.

They had two players who were out and another and another three who were limited.

But in good news, receiver Marquise Brown and tight end Zach Ertz, both of whom were limited all week in practice and questionable for the season opener, did not appear on the injury report at all.

The details of the first injury report of the week are below.

Josh Dobbs to start at QB for Cardinals vs. Giants in Week 2

Dobbs struggled in the Cardinals’ season opening loss to the Commanders but will get the start against the Giants in Week 2.

After one week of the season, the Arizona Cardinals will not be changing their starting quarterback. Head coach Jonathan Gannon told reporters Monday that Josh Dobbs would start again in Week 2 against the New York Giants, Arizona’s home opener.

“I’m excited about seeing what he does this week,” Gannon said.

Dobbs and the offense struggled on Sunday in a 20-16 loss to the Washington Commanders.

The offense did not score a touchdown and mustered only 210 total yards.

Dobbs was 21-for-30 passing for only 132 yards. He was sacked three times and turned the ball over twice on fumbles.

31 of those passing yards came on one play in the first quarter.

The Cardinals don’t have great options at quarterback, at least until the eventual return of Kyler Murray, other than to hope Dobbs improves and that many of the issues he had were the result of a very talented and tough Washington defensive front.

Their only other options are rookie Clayton Tune and veteran Jeff Driskel, who is on the practice squad.

Including his start against the Commanders in the season opener, Dobbs has played in only nine NFL games and has started three times. He is 0-3 in those starts.

Cardinals to face 5 of NFL’s top interior defensive linemen in 2023

They have seven games against five of the league’s best interior defensive linemen in 2023.

The Arizona Cardinals’ defensive line enters the 2023 season with many question marks. They do not have any premier players or even any players who project to maybe be premier players.

But they do face many of the top defensive linemen in the league.

Based on the rankings of the top 11 interior defensive linemen in the NFL, the Cardinals will face five of them, and two of them will be opponents twice.

Where the Cardinals’ opposing starting QBs are ranked in the NFL

See where every projected opposing starting quarterback the Cardinals will face in 2023 is ranked in the NFL.

We are still in the offseason of rankings and lists. Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar ranked the 32 projected Week 1 starting quarterbacks in the NFL entering 2023.

Since Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is not expected to start the season healthy, as he is recovering from a torn ACL suffered in December, Colt McCoy is the one who is ranked. He comes in at No. 30 out of 32.

But what about the quarterbacks the Cardinals will see throughout the season?

Where do they rank?

Below you can find where each of the Cardinals’ projected opposing starters are ranked by Touchdown Wire, going week by week on their schedule.

The Arizona Cardinals have the 23rd-ranked linebacking corps in the NFL, according to Pro Football Focus.

They will face some quality linebacker groups in the coming season.

Based on PFF’s rankings, let’s see where the Cardinals’ opponents are for 2023.
