Cardinals cut CB Trayvon Mullen, sign QB to practice squad

Arizona makes a couple of roster moves on Tuesday.

The Arizona Cardinals announced a somewhat surprising roster move on Tuesday following the team’s 27-13 loss  to the New England Patriots. The team released cornerback Trayvon Mullen.

Mullen played a season-high 42 defensive snaps on Monday. He played 120 snaps in eight games.

In eight games, he had 13 tackles, a pass breakup, a quarterback hit and a forced fumble.

The Cardinals acquired Mullen in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders prior to the season.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, if Mullen plays in two more games, the Cardinals will give up a sixth-round pick. As of now, the compensation would only be a seventh-rounder.

This move might be simple roster manipulation.

Tight end Maxx Williams has been elevated to the 53-man roster three times from the practice squad using a standard elevation. He has no more standard elevations remaining. With only two tight ends on the active roster, Williams will likely be signed to it this week. Mullen could be re-signed to the practice squad and elevated for games moving forward.

The Cardinals’ other roster move was not announced by the team but reported by Garafolo. They are signing quarterback Carson Strong to the practice squad.

Strong was brought in for a tryout last week. He is an undrafted rookie who had a standout career at Nevada. He signed originally with the Eagles.

With Kyler Murray being out for the rest of the season, the Cardinals need a third quarterback on the team for practice. Strong will be that guy.

DL Zach Allen to miss Week 15 game vs. Broncos with hand injury

Zach Allen will miss at least one game with a hand injury.

The Arizona Cardinals have lost starting quarterback Kyler Murray for the remainder of the season. He wasn’t the only starter to go down in the game.

Defensive lineman Zach Allen left the game with a hand injury.

He might not be done for the season, but he is expected to miss the Cardinals’ next game.

“Doesn’t look like he will be able to go this week,” coach Kliff Kingsbury told reporters Tuesday, noting that he didn’t know to what extent the hand was injured.

Allen was seen on the sideline with street clothes on and a cast on the hand.

One would presume that it is a break or a fracture of some sort.

Allen has been one of the most productive interior defensive linemen this season.

His presence will be missed this week when the Cardinals travel to take on the Denver Broncos in Week 15.

Broncos’ Russell Wilson exits game with concussion vs. Chiefs

The Cardinals face the Broncos next week and Wilson might miss the game as he is in league concussion protocols.

The Arizona Cardinals’ Week 15 opponent are the Denver Broncos. Their starting quarterback, Russell Wilson, could miss the game.

Wilson exited the Broncos’ 34-28 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the fourth quarter with a concussion and did not return.

The Cardinals face the Broncos on Sunday in Week 18 in Denver.

Wilson is now in league concussion protocols, which could put his availability for the game against the Cardinals in doubt.

If Wilson is unable to play, the Cardinals would face Brett Rypien.

Cardinals will still face QB Russell Wilson at least once next season

The Cardinals face the Broncos on the road in 2022 and could, just maybe, face them again in the Super Bowl.

The Arizona Cardinals have faced quarterback Russell Wilson twice a year for the last decade, as the Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks are division foes in the NFC West. However, after an agreed trade between the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos, Wilson now heads to Denver and out of the division.

The Cardinals, though, do not get to avoid him in the upcoming season.

They are scheduled to play the AFC West and will face the Broncos on the road.

That means they will face Wilson at some point this coming season for the 21st time. They are 8-11-1 against Wilson in his career.

Of course, there is the possibility they face Wilson twice again. That would mean the Cardinals and Broncos face off at State Farm Stadium for Super Bowl LVII.

We are all good with that, aren’t we?
