How to watch, stream, listen to Cardinals vs. Ravens in preseason home opener

Check out the info you need to know to watch or listen to the Cardinals’ one preseason home game as they take on the Ravens.

The Arizona Cardinals play their lone home preseason game Sunday night against the Baltimore Ravens in a nationally televised matchup. The Cardinals are coming off a 36-23 preseason win over the Cincinnati Bengals in which they had four first-half scores.

Meanwhile, the Ravens hold an NFL-record 21-game preseason winning streak after a 23-10 win over the Tennessee Titans last week.

Rather than a marquee matchup between quarterback Kyler Murray for the Cardinals and Lamar Jackson for the Ravens, it will be a battle between two former teammates — Trace McSorley for the Cardinals, who was drafted by and played three seasons for the Ravens, and Tyler Huntley.

Arizona will debut its new black alternate helmets against the Ravens.

Cardinals release TE Deon Yelder, re-sign OL Greg Long

Greg Long returns after being released on Sunday.

The Arizona Cardinals announced a roster move two days ahead of their lone preseason home game, their matchup Sunday night against the Baltimore Ravens.

The team announced Friday that offensive lineman Greg Long, whom they released on Sunday in the first round of roster cuts, was brought back and re-signed. to make room for him, tight end Deon Yelder was released.

Bringing Long back might be because of the ankle injury that Will Hernandez suffered this week. If Hernandez can’t play on Sunday, then Koda Martin would be pushed into the starting lineup for the game and then the Cardinals wouldn’t have anyone behind him at guard.

Long had been the teams fourth-string center behind Rodney Hudson, Sean Harlow and rookie Lecitus Smith, but he can play guard, too.

With the return of rookie Trey McBride from a back injury and the recent signing of Josh Hokit to the tight end room, Yelder became expendable and, as a veteran entering his fifth season, releasing him now gives him the opportunity to land with another team with at least one preseason game to go.

Antonio Hamilton ahead of Marco Wilson for No. 2 CB job

Head coach Kliff Kingsbury said Hamilton “has really taken over that No. 2 spot for now.”

One position where the starting jobs are not set in stone yet is at cornerback. There are three important roles with only one player — Byron Murphy — with a sure role.

Murphy is the No. 1 cornerback who will play every down and will slide inside to play the slot often, if not all the time the Cardinals play a nickel defense.

The second and third cornerback spots are more up for grabs but one player is pulling ahead.

As reported by multiple media members Friday, head coach Kliff Kingsbury indicated that Antonio Hamilton has taken a hold on the No. 2 cornerback job.

Hamilton has been a journeyman for his career, mostly making an impact on special teams. He played effectively last season filling for injured cornerbacks after Robert Alford and Marco Wilson got hurt.

Now he is on pace to be an every-down player opposite Murphy.

If this keeps up, Wilson, the second-year player the Cardinals drafted in the fourth round in 2021, would likely end up being the third cornerback, playing the role Alford had last season and that the team envisioned Jeff Gladney would have when they signed him, only to have him tragically die in a car accident.

The six-foot, 188-pound Hamilton had 38 tackles and four pass breakups for the Cardinals in 312 defensive snaps, which were a career high.

Rookie TE Trey McBride to get first action in preseason

McBride will play Sunday against the Ravens after missing the preseason opener with back spasms.

The Arizona Cardinals have high hopes for tight end Trey McBride, their second-round selection in the 2022 NFL draft. They wanted him to get a lot of work in the preseason so he is prepared to be able to contribute in the regular season.

He will finally get his first preseason action this weekend when the Cardinals host the Baltimore Ravens Sunday night.

Head coach Kliff Kingsbury made it clear with reporters Thursday that McBride is playing Sunday.

McBride missed the preseason opener last week against the Cincinnati Bengals as he has been dealing with back spasms. He has gotten back on the practice field this week and will get some work in the game.

Cardinals sign former 49ers FB to play TE

The sign former 49ers FB Josh Hokit to play TE as the position is thin with injuries.

The Arizona Cardinals opened a roster spot Wednesday by releasing linebacker Jessie Lemonier. They filled that roster spot by adding a player to play tight end, a position that has some injuries.

The team announced Thursday that Josh Hokit was signed as a tight end.

Hokit spent the last two seasons as a fullback for the San Francisco 49ers on their practice squad.

He is small for tight end at 6-1 and 226 lbs.

Collegiately, he played at Fresno State. He played 44 games as a fullback and rushed for 1,260 yards and 17 touchdowns on 303 carries while catching 38 passes for 260 yards and a touchdown. Hokit was also a two-time All-America selection as a wrestler, earning trips to the NCAA Championship in both his junior and senior seasons.

Tight end Zach Ertz has been resting a calf strain and his wife just had their first child. Maxx Williams is coming back from a torn ACL and has been on limited duty. Rookie Trey McBride has missed time with back spasms and veteran Stephen Anderson has an injured knee.

Hokit will likely be needed to play some in the team’s preseason home opener on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens.

Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill impressed by preseason win over Bengals

Michael Bidwill gave praise to coach Kingsbury for the team’s dominant showing in preseason against the Bengals last week.

The Arizona Cardinals came out strong against the Cincinnati Bengals for their preseason debut last weekend. The final score ended up at 36-23, but even a 13-point winning margin doesn’t tell the full tale of the blowout win in favor of Arizona.

Defensive coordinator Vance Joseph’s defense showed the most important trait possible without starters playing significant time — physicality. The Cardinals’ defensive unit was dominating the line of scrimmage during all phases of the game.

On offense, quarterback Trace McSorley and receiver Greg Dortch stood out, putting on a show against the Bengals. The Cardinals also had an impressive display from fourth-year wideout Andy Isabella.

Team owner Michael Bidwill joined Arizona Sports 98.7 to talk about the win, calling it the best-coached preseason win in his life.

“I told coach (Kingsbury) after the game that was the best coached preseason game I’ve ever seen,” he said. “They were well-prepared and it was the best preseason performance I’ve seen in my lifetime.”

Bidwill admired the level of preparation from the Cardinals without the starters playing, particularly with the lack of penalties and turnovers. Two penalties in a preseason game is impressive, particularly given the lack of veteran starters playing. Look no further than the Bengals, who committed penalty after penalty from the opening kickoff.

Despite the preseason victory, Bidwill is looking forward to the regular season opener against the Chiefs, which was just announced to be the No. 1 game on CBS with Jim Nantz and Tony Romo.

Cardinals have chance to break historic preseason record vs. Ravens

The Ravens will look to add to their historic preseason winning streak against the hometown Cardinals this Sunday.

The Arizona Cardinals will be playing their second preseason game at home against the Baltimore Ravens this Sunday. The team is expected to primarily play the starters from last week’s blowout win against the Bengals, while continuing to sit key players like Kyler Murray and company.

Similarly, the Ravens will certainly not risk the likes of Lamar Jackson and other starters. That means it will be Trace McSorley for Arizona and Tyler Huntley for Baltimore.

The Ravens come into this game with one of the craziest statistics in recent memory. They are on a 21-game preseason winning streak, with their last loss dating back to 2015. Their 23-10 win over the Titans last week broke the all-time preseason win streak record previously set by Vince Lombardi and the Green Bay Packers.

While preseason games don’t mean anything come September, the streak is still extremely impressive. The Ravens have won these 21 games without playing key starters. It’s a great credit to their scouting department as the organization continues to find quality talent in the late rounds of the draft and into unrestricted free agency. They have also been one of the best teams early on in the regular season under John Harbaugh.

Trace McSorley, a former Baltimore Raven, looked sharp in his Cardinals debut against his old team. He was efficient moving the ball, going 13-for-22 for 163 yards and a touchdown. McSorley and Greg Dortch connected on a few highlight reel plays and both figure to play a lot this Sunday.

Perhaps McSorley, the former Raven turned meme icon from a popular TikTok trend, will end the team’s iconic preseason run. The odds don’t favor the Cardinals, as they are almost 7-point underdogs. Regardless of outcome, however, the Cardinals will be debuting their new all-black helmets.

Kyler Murray not playing in preseason; Trace McSorley slated to start vs. Ravens

McSorley will get to play against his former team.

The Arizona Cardinals will face the Baltimore Ravens this Sunday night at State Farm Stadium in their second preseason game of the year. Quarterback Kyler Murray will not play in the game.

Murray confirmed what many believed was the plan for his preseason participation when he spoke with the reporters Tuesday.

He said he will not be playing in the preseason.

It does not sound like backup Colt McCoy will get the start either. He has  been dealing with some arm soreness.

Head coach Kliff Kingsbury, speaking to reporters Monday, seemed to suggest that Trace McSorley would be making his second start in a row, facing his former team.

“We’re excited to watch Trace,” he said. “Obviously being his former team, he’ll be keyed up and that one and it should be a fun evening.”
