Trio of Buckeyes accept invite to play in East-West Shrine Bowl

Jordan Fuller, Branden Bowen and Binjimen Victory have all accepted invites to play in the East-West Shrine Bowl.

If you’re like me, you have memories of watching the last bit of college football you can soak up when the East-West Shrine Bowl kicks off after the post-season. It pits senior college players considered all-stars from the eastern part of the United States and Canada with those from the western part of the U.S. and our neighbors to the north.

What makes it so iconic though is the trading of college logos. You’ll see various traditional helmets with those of other schools. It’s one of the two showcases (the other being the Senior Bowl) for senior college football players to get in front of NFL scouts and executives one last time.

Ohio State always seems to have some talent in this game, and it’s no different this time. We’ve already informed you of safety Jordan Fuller’s intentions on playing in the game, and now we have two more Buckeyes that have accepted invites.

Both right tackle Branden Bowen and wide-receiver Binjimen Victory have also agreed to play in the game set to take place on January 18 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.

All three had integral roles with Ohio State this year. Fuller is a multiple-year starter that earned All Big Ten First Team status this year. Victor is a three year starter/co-starter at one of the wide-receiver spots, and Bowen stepped in to provide leadership as a starter on a rebuilt offensive line in 2019.

Now they’ll get to strap those helmets on one last time before hoping to hear their names called during the 2020 NFL Draft.

Nike is now selling an Ohio State LeBron James “alumni” jersey

Although LeBron James didn’t attend college, Nike has released an Ohio State “alumni” jersey for one of the greatest player of all-time.

Although NBA superstar LeBron James didn’t attend college, Nike is releasing an Ohio State “alumni” jersey for one of the greatest basketball players of all-time.

James, who grew up in Akron, Ohio, has been a life-long Buckeye fan. He’s been in attendance at games, seen wearing apparel, and oftentimes calls out Buckeyes after outstanding performances on social media.

He’s even gone on record stating that he would have gone to Ohio State if he wasn’t able to go straight to the NBA. Heck, he even has his own locker at the Schottenstein Center to this day (and a wall full of LeBron shoes).

Why wouldn’t Nike want to capitalize on the likeness of one of the world’s most popular athletes? With the name and “23” jersey number, the company is now selling the product with the swoosh and all.

It’s interesting they went with the “23” instead of the “6,” a number James has also worn throughout his career. Here’s a preview of the jersey thanks to Andrew Lind of Buckeye Sports Bulletin.

But, hey, they’re a company, and James will certainly get some royalties from this operation. At the end of the day, the bottom line matters, and even if James didn’t attend OSU, there’s no reason the company cannot capitalize on the idea.

Plus, if you’re Ohio State, you love this for exposure and recruiting. And for Buckeye fans, it has to be pretty appealing to go out and get an Ohio State ‘Bron jersey.

Ohio State vs. Clemson: Buckeye QB Justin Fields, “I can’t move like I want to”

Ohio State’s Justin Fields, leading up the Fiesta Bowl, gave an unfortunate update on his MCL, saying “I can’t move like I want to.”

The story of Justin Fields’ first year at Ohio State has been a magical one. He’s transcended the program as a transfer from Georgia, and led the Buckeyes to both an undefeated regular season, and a Big Ten Championship.

The 6-foot-3 sophomore quarterback totaled 40 passing touchdowns and just one interception. A 40:1 ratio is rare, and it’s something that probably should’ve earned Fields a bit more love as a Heisman finalist.

However, that is now behind him, as the star QB is in Arizona preparing for the Fiesta Bowl in which his Buckeyes will take on the undefeated ACC Champs and defensing national champions, Clemson Tigers.

He may not be at full strength though despite having a few weeks off to heal. Fields, leading up the Fiesta Bowl, said he can’t move like he wants to, having dealt with an MCL sprain ever since the Penn State.

When speaking to reporters in Scottsdale, Fields was asked about his health.

“I can’t move like I want to,” said Fields.

Fields has been dealing with a banged up knee and re-aggravated it at least once. It might be that it won’t have the time to fully heal until the off-season. That said, let’s pray that Fields’ health won’t be a deciding factor in one of college football’s premier games.

He’s been praised for his toughness, and he’ll have to battle through another game or two if the storybook he wants comes to fruition.

Ohio State safety Jordan Fuller to participate in East-West Shrine Bowl

Ohio State safety Jordan Fuller will participate in this year’s East-West Shrine Bowl.

The post-season all-star games are beginning to take shape. We’ve already heard from the Reese’s Senior Bowl with a trio of Buckeyes participating, and now we know that Ohio State safety Jordan Fuller will be participating in the East-West Shrine Bowl.

The game has been played annually since 1925 and consists of senior football players considered all-stars. It pits players from the eastern United States and Canada against players from the western U.S. and Canada.

Fuller garnered second team All Big-Ten honors this year and was a steady presence in the middle of the secondary on one of the best defenses in the country. He was also a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy — handed out annually as the “academic Heisman.”

The East-West Shrine Bowl is set to take place on January 18 this year and should attract a slew of scouts and NFL executives.
