Former Broncos QB Tim Tebow reflects on thrilling 2011 Wild Card victory over Steelers

Former Denver #Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow reflects on thrilling 2011 Wild Card game victory over the Pittsburgh #Steelers w/ @EdEastonJr

This week, Touchdown Wire’s Ed Easton Jr. spoke to Heisman Trophy winner and former Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow.

In his interview with Easton Jr., Tebow, on behalf of the 2024 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, discussed joining forces with New Orleans nonprofit Son of a Saint for a day of mentorship and reflected on the memorable 2011 AFC Wild Card game Broncos’ victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“Son of a Saint is doing a mentor day with many amazing young men who, unfortunately, have lost a father,” Tebow explained. “Son of a Saint mentors them and gives them many amazing opportunities. And so we’re breaking up into stations, and we just had the chance to celebrate with all the good works team members and then give back together.

“I’m just so proud of all these young men for not just what they do on the field but, more importantly, who they are and how they serve off the field. I love that Allstate allows us to celebrate these young men as members of the Good Works team and the partnership of people coming together, from AFCA to the Wuerffel Trophy and the Wuerffel Foundation to so many people.”

Tebow was the starting quarterback for most of the 2011 season, leading the underdog Broncos to the postseason. Throughout the year, he spoke about the team’s unity as essential to their success and the AFC West division title.

“Brotherhood and belief that that team was just a special team that probably wasn’t, in every way, the best team, meaning, did we have all the perfect pieces? Maybe not, but, man, that was a close team, that team that never quit,” said Tebow. “It was a team that, like people throw the word brotherhood a lot like you really feel like it was.

“One of the coolest things is when you watch the touchdown to DT (Demaryius Thomas) to win the game; if you look at the wide copy, you’ll see Champ Bailey, one of the best cornerbacks ever to do it, is on the sideline running almost as fast as DT like, that’s a however, many year vet that invested in overtime.”

Tebow completed 10 passes for a career-high 316 yards and two touchdowns, including the famous 80-yard touchdown to Demaryius Thomas on the first play of overtime.

“It was the veterans. We had Brian Dawkins, Champ Bailey, and Elvis Dumerville,” Tebow explained. “Then. you had the young guys, Von Miller, DT, and Eric Decker. Still, the relationship, camaraderie, and Never Say Die attitude, I think it was just so special. That’s what I think I’ll always take away. I think that what made us different was that sense of belief together, and we’re not going to quit.”

It was the second pick-six of the game thrown by Winston.

The Broncos and Browns traded long TD passes

The MNF broadcast mentioned how Bo Nix wasn’t seeing the field. How rookie QBs were 8-18-1 against Jim Schwartz’s defenses.

Good thing the Denver Broncos rookie QB couldn’t hear it. He stepped back into the end zone on third-and-11 and delivered a beautiful pass down the middle to Marvin Mims.

Mims took off after catching the throw and was gone. The play covered 93 yards and after Wil Lutz’s PAT, the Broncos led 28-17.

The Browns took the next kickoff at their 30 and Jameis Winston fired to ex-Bronco WR Jerry Jeudy.

Jeudy caught the pass in his revenge game and 70 yards later was in the end zone.

Jeudy also caught the two-point conversion pass and it was a 28-25 game.

Denver Broncos WR Josh Reynolds was shot twice on Oct. 18

Frightening stuff out of Denver as it was reported Thursday that Broncos wide receiver Josh Reynolds was shot twice last week.

Reynolds is recovering after being shot in his left arm and back of the head.

Per 9news.com:

Shortly after 3 a.m. on Oct. 18, someone called 911 about a shooting near East Hampden Avenue and South Dahlia Street. The caller reported he was driving a blue Ford Bronco and said he had been shot, according to court documents obtained by 9NEWS.

A second 911 caller said he was being followed and that two of his friends had been shot, the court documents say. That caller was running and said he needed an ambulance. A third caller said they had been shot at.

Officers responded there and located the victims. Among them was Reynolds.
Denver Police have Burr Charlesworth and Luis Mendoza in the case.

The Broncos released a statement on Thursday.

“Josh Reynolds was a victim of a shooting on Friday in Denver and received treatment for minor injuries. Out of respect for the legal process, we will defer further comment on this matter to the authorities.”

Broncos blitz Saints in Sean Payton’s homecoming

Sean Payton and the Broncos rolled over the Saints

Revenge was served twice on Thursday. Once for Sean Payton. Once for Wil Lutz. The former coach and kicker for the New Orleans Saints savored the Denver Broncos’ 33-10 victory at the Superdome.

Payton became the eighth coach in NFL history to have beaten every team in the league. After being given the game ball, he said that “meant a lot.”

After two weeks of the season, the Broncos were winless. The Saints were on top of the NFL with two resounding wins.

Scripts have flipped with Denver winning three of four and New Orleans losing five straight.

Injuries have played a role in New Orleans’ collapse. Against Denver, Chris Olave. Rashid Shaheed and Derek Carr were among those out.

However, the defense has crumbled. Denver got 389 yards of total offense, 225 on the ground.

Lutz, meanwhile, had four field goals and three extra points, outscoring New Orleans by himself.

He kicked for six seasons with the Saints before moving on to the Broncos last season with Payton.

Broncos passing game specialist Zack Grossi battling cancer

Broncos passing game specialist Zack Grossi fighting cancer

Denver Broncos passing game specialist Zack Grossi has been diagnosed with cancer, the team announced on Saturday.

Grossi has been with the Broncos since 2022 and was elevated to this role in 2024.

He posted a statement:

“For the last three months, I felt a little bit off, and recently, I began to have trouble breathing. Last week, I went to the Broncos’ medical staff, and they told me we needed to run several tests. I underwent bloodwork and a scan, and that’s when they found the tumor in my chest cavity.

“Officially, I have been diagnosed with a Yolk Sac Tumor.

“The diagnosis is scary, but the good news is it’s highly treatable. I began chemotherapy this week, and after a few more months of chemo, I’ll have surgery to remove the remaining tumor.

“My approach isn’t so different than getting ready for a game. I’ll stay the course, keep working and keep grinding. Day by day is my motto. I have marching orders from my doctors, and I’m trusting the process.

“I don’t want to put a date on my return, but I can’t wait to get back to doing what I love.”

Coach Sean Payton offered his support.

“Our unwavering support is with Zack and his family as he takes some time away to focus on his health,” Payton said. “Knowing what Zack is all about and talking with him since his diagnosis, I have no doubt he will Fight Like A Bronco. We’ll be with him every step of the way and can’t wait to welcome him back to our staff.”

Pat Surtain II picked off a pass and returned it 100 yards for a score

You don’t want to test Pat Surtain II when playing the Denver Broncos. Nothing good usually happens if you do.

The Las Vegas Raiders’ Gardner Minshew threw at Surtain and the elite DB picked off the pass and was off and running like a bronco.

Surtain’s 100-yard pick-six was followed by a PAT that tied the game at 10 after the Raiders had led 10-0.

Broncos slip past Jets on fourth-quarter field goal

The Broncos downed the Jets in a low-scoring slog

Just when you thought the New York Jets had things going in the right direction, they flip the script to the miserable past.

With a chance to boost their record to 3-1 with a game in London against the undefeated Minnesota Vikings next week, the Jets lost to the Denver Broncos, 10-9, at MetLife Stadium.

Denver won despite a first half that saw rookie quarterback Bo Nix throw for -7 yards on seven completions. The rookie from Oregon wound up with 60 passing yards, including eight on a TD throw to Courtland Sutton.

That play in the third quarter gave Denver a 7-6 lead.

The Jets countered with a Greg Zuerlein field goal but Wil Lutz hit the game-winner from 47 yards with 8:55 remaining.

Zuerlein missed a 50-yarder that would have given the Jets the lead in the final minute.

Aaron Rodgers was 24-of-42 for 225 yards. Denver limited the Jets to 64 yards on 23 rushing attempts.
