Mike Tyson – Roy Jones Jr. highlights, breakdown of the exhibition match

See highlights of the fight between Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr.

Mike Tyson fought Roy Jones Jr. on Saturday night, in an exhibition bout that showcased the two former champions. Tyson is 54 years old. Jones is 51. Like I said, it was very much an exhibition.

While they’re both getting up there, the bout wasn’t a total waste of time. Unlike whatever it was we saw in the undercard Jake Paul- Nate Robinson fight, which saw Paul landing a big knockout in a bout that can best be described as “amateur,” this was a real fight between two real fighters.

While the speed may not have been there, Tyson and Jones are two of the greatest of all time, and they haven’t lost their technique or knowledge of how to box.

The fight ended in a draw, although I personally would have scored it for Tyson. Also, it truly doesn’t matter at all.

Jake Paul knocked out Nate Robinson and Twitter had so many jokes

Down goes Nate Robinson.

In one of the strangest sporting events of 2020, YouTube star Jake Paul faced off against former NBA dunk contest champion Nate Robinson in a celebrity boxing match – and Robinson’s first boxing match couldn’t have gone worse.

Paul had a significant size advantage and some previous experience in the ring, and he completely outmatched Robinson in an amateurish, wild bout. Paul dropped Robinson in the first round, and then knocked him out cold with a right hand that caused Robinson to faceplant into the mat. NBA Twitter isn’t going easy on Robinson after his extremely poor showing.

Watch Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr.’s tense weigh in staredown ahead of their fight

This is gonna be good

Listen. Both Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr have been retired from boxing for years. With that being said, I am still absolutely terrified of both of them. And you should probably be, too.

We were reminded of that during their weigh in ahead of Saturday night’s fight. They had an extremely tense staredown that served as a perfect reminder of just how tough they both were.

Normally, when we get to the weigh down, there’s a bunch of trash talk. Not here. No one spoke a word. They didn’t have to. Particularly with Tyson — he didn’t need to say a word. We know what that right hook does.

Just look at how tense this is.

Whew buddy. Yeah, they look old. But you couldn’t pay me any amount of money to step into the ring with either of them. No wonder fans are so ready to see this.

Everything kicks off at 9 p.m. We’ll see how it goes.

Blink and you’ll miss this ridiculous 3-second knockout in a bare knuckle fighting match

Watch the fastest bare knuckle knockout in history.

Uly Diaz scored the knockout of his life on Friday night at Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship 14, dropping his opponent to the canvas with a vicious right hand just a split second after the opening bell sounded.

Taking on Donelei Benedetto, Diaz launched forward immediately as the referee started the bout, threw one left hand and then caught Benedetto with a right hook. The official timing of the fight registered the knockout just three seconds into the first round, making it the fastest KO in bare knuckle history.

The replay of the knockout blow in slow-motion is incredible. Diaz improved his record to 2-0 with the victory, which was his second career KO.

Deontay Wilder calls out Tyson Fury for trying to ‘weasel out’ of rematch

“Now it is time for you to be a man and honor your word, instead of trying to weasel out of our agreement.”

After Tyson Fury knocked out Deontay Wilder in their heavyweight title bout earlier this year, most boxing fans assumed that we had just witnessed the second fight in an eventual trilogy.

The third fight appeared to be agreed to, with only dates needing to be set, with some suggestions that the fight could come as early as this summer. Then COVID-19 happened, the world got turned upside down, and no fight ever came.

According to a furious Deontay Wilder post on Twitter on Saturday, that third fight still isn’t happening. Wilder accused Fury of trying to “weasel out” of their rematch, suggesting that Fury will fight challenger Carlos Takam in London on December 5, and not Wilder.

For their part, Fury’s camp has not announced who the fight will be against on December 5, though Wilder would probably know if it was him, one would sort of have to think.

In a video and series of posts,

Warning: Explicit language below.

It reads:

“When you were going through your darkest time, I told you that if you got yourself together I would give you a title shot. Being a man of my word, I gave you the title shot. When that fight was a draw, I told you that I would give you a rematch. You know I was offered more money to fight [Anthony] Joshua than I was getting to fight you. Again, being a man of my word, I fought you like I said I would.

“In the rematch agreement, there was a rematch clause. Now it is time for you to be a man and honor your word, instead of trying to weasel out of our agreement.”

Boxing fans (including LeBron James) went wild for this brutal Gervonta Davis knockout punch

Gervonta Davis dropped Santa Cruz with a vicious uppercut that LeBron James called the knockout of the year.

Gervonta “Tank” Davis has already gotten some hype as one of the best young fighters in the world, and the Baltimore native kept that hype train going on Saturday night with an absolutely brutal knockout of Leo Santa Cruz.

The knockout came in the sixth round, after Davis methodically worked Santa Cruz into the corner, then unleashed a left hand that will undoubtedly go down as one of the best knockouts of the year.

The knockout was so good it got a ton of sports legends excited. LeBron James called it the knockout of the year, with Magic Johnson reacting to it by comparing Davis to a young Mike Tyson, and calling him the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. Wow.

Here’s the knockout:

Look at how Davis, who we profiled back in 2015, lets Santa Cruz land punches, because he knows he can take them, and just uses that to set up the punch he wants.

This power is absolutely ridiculous.

Look at the reaction from boxing fans:

Boxing fans were outraged by questionable scorecard in Lopez – Lomachenko title fight

The right boxer won, but fans had questions after a 119-109 scorecard for Teofimo Lopez.

If you didn’t see a second of the title fight between Teofimo Lopez and Vasiliy Lomachenko, and just saw the cards, you’d think Lopez cruised easily to an upset win over the pound-for-pound champ.

…That would not be an accurate reflection of reality, at least according to a lot of boxing fans. While Lopez owned the early rounds, arguably winning the first six, Lomachenko then dominated the next five, only for Lopez to come roaring back in a thrilling final round.

Most fans had it as a slight win for Lopez, if not a draw. (Some gave the second round to Lomachenko.) Commentator Andre Ward had it scored 114-114 draw on the broadcast.

The official scorecards told a different story. The fight was scored 116-112 by Tim Cheatham, 117-111 by Steve Weisfield and 119-109 by Julie Lederman.

They had the right man winning, but the margin of victory was, to put it kindly, surprising.

The last scorecard especially seemed one from a different fight, and fans were clearly upset about the 119-109 scoring from Lederman.

Though, ESPN’s Myron Medcalf had some good perspective:

In the end, that’s where I come in on this. Lopez remained competitive in the rounds that Lomachenko won, while the rounds Lopez won were total dominations. He won the 12th, as well. I think 116-112 is the right score. One wild scorecard doesn’t change the fact that the right boxer won.
