Boston College vs UConn Game Preview

Why Boston College Will Win

The run defense is good enough. It’s the pass defense that has problems, and that’s not what UConn does.

Freshman QB Zion Turner is hitting his passes, but he’s throwing short-range safe throws that don’t take a ton of chances. UConn is dead last in the nation in yards per completion, and on the other side, the pass defense isn’t anything great. The Eagle passing game should be effective.

The Huskies can make this interesting by running for 200 yards, but the BC D holds up well up front – for the most part – but …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 8

Why UConn Will Win

Statistically the Eagles are good against the run because everyone is so busy throwing it. Opponents are averaging four yards per carry, and it’s up to UConn to hammer away at least 40 times to try controlling the game.

Boston College is dead last in the nation in rushing, which is why the offense is so bad on third downs – there are few manageable third down tries.

The Eagle O line is struggling, and the UConn defensive front should be able to make plays in the backfield with a decent enough pass rush to matter.

– Game Previews, Predictions CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

Can the Boston College offense finally get going?

It’s been a struggle, but every once in a while the things works. However, it takes at least 400 yards to do it, and that’s hard without any sort of a ground game.

Boston College is 2-0 when getting to 400 yards and 0-5 when it doesn’t.

UConn allows 395 yards per game.

Boston College vs Wake Forest Game Preview

Why Boston College Will Win

Do what you do, Boston College.

There isn’t any running game to speak of, but that means the passing attack has to work. So far it’s been this simple for the Eagles – throw for 300 and win, throw for fewer than that and lose.

Wake Forest’s pass defense has only allowed over 300 yards once – the loss to Clemson – but it hasn’t faced anyone else who can throw other than Florida State.

The Seminoles got to 281 with three touchdowns in the Demon Deacon win, but Boston College on two weeks of rest should be able to push that unless …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 7

Why Wake Forest Will Win

The Wake Forest pass rush should work.

Again, Boston College doesn’t have a rushing offense, and it’s not going to start this week. The Demon Deacons don’t have a problem against teams that can throw because they can 1) get to the quarterback and 2) throw better.

They haven’t needed to bomb away for over 300 yards to win, but they’ve been effective and efficient with Sam Hartman settling in, spreading the ball around well, and hitting on the deep shots.

It won’t take too many points to get this done – Boston College doesn’t have the firepower to keep up in any sort of a shootout.

– Schedules, Previews CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

Boston College will have its moments.

It’ll be a bit more of a back-and-forth fight than Wake Forest might like for three quarters, and then Hartman will get hot on the way to a quick burst to put this out of reach.

Being +3 in turnover margin will make it easier.

Clemson vs Boston College Game Preview

Why Clemson Will Win

Oh, so NOW everyone is realizing that DJ Uiagalelei is a good quarterback.

He was plagued by dropped passes in the opener against Georgia Tech and wasn’t razor-sharp against Louisiana Tech, but he’s being careful with his throws – just one pick so far – and he’s accurate enough to keep the offense moving.

Clemson leads the ACC and is ninth in the nation in third down conversion percentage. Boston College isn’t.

The Eagles have no running game whatsoever, they’re not connecting on their third down tries at all, and both of those come from an offensive line that’s giving up play after play behind the line.

The Clemson defensive line hasn’t quite been the killer expected, but it’s about to have a huge day.

NFL Expert Picks, Week 5

Why Boston College Will Win

So what is Boston College doing right?

Just when it seemed like the season was totally lost, the passing game clicked with Phil Jurkovec completing 18-of-21 passes for 304 yards and three touchdowns in the 34-33 win over Louisville.

The parts are there to wing it all over the yard, and Jurkovec and WR Zay Flowers might actually be the best offensive players on the field, but now they need to do even more.

Clemson’s pass defense got ripped up by Sam Hartman and the Wake Forest offense, and it’s allowing way too many completions and downfield plays.

However …

– Schedules, Previews CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

Again, there’s NO running game from Boston College to worry about.

The Eagle pass rush is okay, but it won’t be that big a problem.

The BC D has forced one takeaway so far against FBS teams. the offense will give it away multiple times, and Clemson will come up with a good balance to get through this in a win-and-move-on sort of way.

Louisville vs Boston College Game Preview

Why Louisville Will Win

If you’re going to be a pass-only offense, you need to be able to pass.

Boston College doesn’t do the whole running thing – averaging just under 60 yards per game – but the passing attack isn’t making up for it.

The team has playmakers in QB Phil Jurkovec and WR Zay Flowers, but there’s no downfield passing attack for an offense that’ struggling to get to 20 points to go along with an ACC-worst 283 yards per game.

The Louisville defense is coming off one of its best performances of the season in a 41-3 win over USF, and it’s not going to allow anything against the run.

Boston College can’t pass protect, Louisville is among the best in the country at getting to the quarterback, and …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 4

Why Boston College Will Win

Jurkovec might be able to dink and dunk on the Cardinals to death.

UCF and USF struggled to complete the basic passes, but Syracuse’s Garrett Shrader and Florida State’s combination of Jordan Travis and Tate Rodemaker were able to combine to hit 70% of their throws for 266 yards and four scores.

No, the Boston College offense isn’t working, but Jurkovec should be able to make just enough easy throws to keep things moving.

Considering the overall struggles, the Eagles have to own the mistake battle. They need to be +2 in turnover margin, and at least +4 in penalties.

– Schedules, Previews CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

What about Boston College would suggest that it’s ready to pull off a good win?

It couldn’t do anything against a bad Virginia Tech team, and it couldn’t get going against Rutgers or Florida State.

Louisville has a whole slew of problems, but it should be able to run without too many problems on the BC front, and the defense will do its part. The team wins when the D is okay.

The Louisville D will be okay.

Florida State vs Boston College Game Preview

Why Boston College Will Win

Can the Boston College pass rush be enough to bother the Seminole backfield?

The run defense hasn’t been all that bad over the last few weeks after getting run over by Rutgers, but it’s the pass rush that needs to get to the FSU quarterback – no matter who that is.

Tate Rodemaker is the likely starter, but Jordan Travis might give it a go on a gimpy leg after getting hurt against Louisville. Rodemaker ended up pulling out the win hitting 6-of-10 passes for 109 yards and two scores with a pick, but now the BC coaching staff had a week to prepare for him.

The FSU secondary has been solid so far, but it allowed over 200 yards in each of the last two weeks, and it’s about to get thrown on over and over again because …

CFN Expert Picks, Week 4

Why Florida State Will Win

Boston College REALLY can’t run the ball.

It gave it a shot in the 38-17 win over Maine, but it was still a struggle. The passing game finally perked up against the FCSer, but it didn’t do enough in losses to Rutgers and Virginia Tech, and the ground game came up with just 33 yards on 54 carries in the two games.

Florida State has the punting game to give the struggling Eagle offense long field to work with, its own ground game has been solid enough to take over, and the O should dominate the time of possession battle if all goes according to plan.

Week 4 Schedule, Predictions, Game Preview

What’s Going To Happen

Boston College hasn’t been playing well, but Florida State is starting to get a bit beaten up. However, the Noles will move the chains and the Eagles won’t.

It’ll take about a half to get going, and then the FSU running game will start to bust off a few big runs. New star Seminole pass rusher Jared Verse is hurting, but the pressure will still be there on Phil Jurkovec throughout the game to ever let the Eagle offense get comfortable.

It’ll be another ugly win for the Seminoles, but 4-0 looks beautiful no matter what.
