Iowa State (5-2) vs Kansas State (4-3) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Kansas State Will Win

The Wildcat run defense has been solid. If you can’t at least slow the Iowa State ground game, you can’t beat Iowa State.

K-State has only allowed more than 200 rushing yards once, even though they don’t get into the backfield on a regular basis.

The Wildcat passing game has a decent downfield game, the special teams continue to be solid, and the team should be able to tilt the field enough to make a difference. As always, Kansas State does all of the little things right.

Why Iowa State Will Win

The Cyclones might have the best running back in college football – at least the potential top back this year.

Breece Hall has hit the 100-yard mark in every game, getting over 1,000 yards last week with a 133-yard, two-score day in the win over Baylor. The Cyclones are running well against everyone – they lead the Big 12 in rushing – and they might have the formula to work against Kansas State.

The Wildcats aren’t doing much on third downs and they’re last in the Big 12 in first downs. Iowa State is great at controlling the clock, the D is excellent on third downs, and Hall and company should keep things moving.

What’s Going To Happen

What’s going wrong for Kansas State? The offense had to go against two of the Big 12’s best defenses – West Virginia and Oklahoma State – and the O stalled.

Third downs and moving the chains have been an issue, failing to convert 30% of its chances in three of the last four games, and that’s going to be a killer against this Cyclone team.

Iowa State won’t do anything fancy. Run Hall, control the clock, rely on the D to keep the Wildcats from going off.

Texas (5-2) vs Kansas (0-7) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Texas Will Win

Very, very, very, very, very quietly, Texas is on a three game winning streak including a terrific victory over Oklahoma State on the road to stay in the hunt for the Big 12 championship.

So how is this happening? The run defense has been great, the offense has come up with a slew of timely plays, and the defensive is generating enough tackles for loss to be a bother. Most of all, Texas is winning the turnover margin and hasn’t turned it over in the last two games – it’s not going to give Kansas a slew of breaks.

Why Kansas Will Win

The Texas offense isn’t exactly clicking.

The team has a way of playing up or down to the competition, there isn’t enough of a steady running game to be a concern, and the passing attack hasn’t hit 200 yards in the last few weeks.

Kansas is okay at controlling the clock and slowing things down. If it can speed up the game and keep Texas from hitting the explosive plays, it can keep it close at home.

What’s Going To Happen

Kansas is WAY overdue for one of its patented big performances out of the blue, but the team isn’t showing anything lately defensively in blowout loss after blowout loss.

The Texas D isn’t a brick wall, but it’s playing well enough to keep the Jayhawk offense that hasn’t scored more than 17 points in five of the last six games under wraps.

College Football News 2020 college football rankings after Week 11

Who did you beat?

Now it’s really coming down to the various resumés, and there’s a problem.

BYU and Cincinnati haven’t beaten anyone all that great. There’s no Power Five win for either one, and the supposedly big wins they did come up with now seem like no big deal with all the Power Five conference schedules rolling. However, they’ve been so dominant that they get the benefit of the doubt – sort of.

Sorry, but even in their weakened states, beating Penn State and Michigan is still impressive – and Indiana still has to go to Ohio State and Wisconsin.

So feel free to fire out your beefs and complaints – this is a work in progress and we want to make sure we get all of this as close to the pin as possible – but before you do, look at your team’s schedule and keep diving in further. You’ll probably have your answer.

Baylor (1-4) vs Texas Tech (2-5) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Baylor Will Win

The Bears aren’t making a whole lot of mistakes.

There might several parts that need tweaking, but the team isn’t getting penalized enough to matter, leading the Big 12 in turnover margin helped by just five giveaways. Even when there have been mistakes, the Bears have yet to lose the turnover battle in any game.

Texas Tech’s defense isn’t doing enough to help the offense, generating just six takeaways and three over the last five games.

Baylor’s defense hasn’t been great, but it’s not that bad. Texas Tech’s defense is he worst in the Big 12, it’s having massive problems in the secondary, and when it isn’t giving up massive passing yards the D is getting hammered by teams trying to run it.

Texas Tech is allowing well over 100 more yards per game than Baylor is.

Why Texas Tech Will Win

Baylor doesn’t have a running game. The offensive line has struggled throughout, and the ground attack hasn’t managed to push past 75 yards after kicking things off with a 203-yard day against Kansas.

The Texas Tech offensive line continues to be decent in pass protection, the passing game hasn’t been awful – even if it’s not Texas Tech-like – and this week it shouldn’t take much to outgain a punchless Bear attack.

The Red Raiders have hit the 400-yard mark in total offense four times. Baylor had a season-high 366 in last week’s loss to Iowa State.

CFN College Football Experts Picks

What’s Going To Happen

The Texas Tech offense has just sort of … stopped.

By most normal standards the O isn’t awful, but there hasn’t been a 300-yard passing game in the last five games. The program hasn’t had a string of non-300-yard games longer than two for well over a decade.

Neither team is playing particularly well, but Texas Tech is playing just a little bit worse. This is the fourth road game in the last five dates for Baylor, and it’ll show.

TCU (3-3) vs West Virginia (4-3) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why TCU Will Win

When the running game works, TCU wins.

The passing attack has been fine at times, but that’s usually used to try keeping up. When TCU is working, it’s controlling games on the ground going 3-0 when it runs for 200 yards or more.

It’s not a dominant attack, but when it works, the Horned Frogs are great at controlling the clock and the game. West Virginia has the Big 12’s best defense, but it’s 0-3 when allowing more than 75 rushing yards.

Why West Virginia Will Win

The passing game has found its groove.

The defense has been strong – it’s among the league’s best at getting into the backfield and it’s tops by far in pass D – but the team has started to kick it in with the offense that hit the 300-yard mark through the air in each of the last four games.

Jarret Doege hasn’t thrown an interception in the last three games and not looks more comfortable pushing the ball down the field a little bit more.

The offense is relying on him to take on the offense to overcome the lack of a steady running game, and now it gets a TCU defense that allowed 200 passing yards or ore in every game but defensive battle against Kansas State.

CFN College Football Experts Picks

What’s Going To Happen

West Virginia is a different animal at home.

It’s 0-3 on the road, 4-0 at Mountaineer Football Field and Mulan Piskar, and it comes from getting more out of the defense. At home, West Virginia has allowed fewer than 260 yards in each of the four games, and way over 300 yards in each of the three road games.

TCU’s offense will try to run, but it won’t be able to do it enough to pull this off.

Next week it’s really on when the Pac-12 adds its two-cents into the mix.

As always, the ground rules for this are 1) win your Power Five championship and go unbeaten and you’re almost certainly in, or 2) finish with one loss and a Power Five championship and you’re probably in, or 3) lose one game in the SEC, Big Ten or ACC and as long as that’s it, you have a shot.

Everyone else is playing for the joy of college football.

College Football News 2020 college football rankings after Week 10

And now Liberty screws everything up.

At this point in the season, there has to be a healthy mix of opinion to go along with what has to be done based on what happened on the field.

BYU and Cincinnati appear to be very good teams that just so happen to have mediocre schedules, while Liberty seems to be a good team that has two Power Five wins – Syracuse and now Virginia Tech – for the better resumé.

Liberty also screws up the ACC pecking order. Coming up with one big win over a team isn’t the same as dealing with the weekly grind of a Power Five schedule, but as the line continues to go, non-conference games have consequences.

Virginia Tech lost at home to an unbeaten Liberty. That’s going to stick with the Hokies and the ACC for the rest of the season, just like the Big 12’s 0-3 home record against the Sun Belt won’t be shaken.

Louisiana still has just one loss to an unbeaten Coastal Carolina, and the 34-13 road win over Iowa State is by far the worst thing to happen to the Cyclones this year.

Up top … whatever. The top four teams are the top four teams. Alabama has been more dominant overall, Notre Dame gets credit for pulling off a win over Clemson, Ohio State is amazing but hasn’t beaten anyone – if you go by Penn State’s 0-3 record – and Clemson is fine but beaten up.

Credit is given overall for wins over Power Five programs in big situations. Michigan and Penn State might be struggling, but they’re still Michigan and Penn State, and Indiana beat them both.

As always, if you have a major issue with these, check the schedules – your team probably lost to someone it shouldn’t have.
