WATCH: Former NFL QB explains how Mac Jones can be succesful in the NFL

Formerl NFL quarterback and current ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky explains how former Alabama quarterback Mac Jones can be succesful in the NFL.

Mac Jones is entering an NFL draft class loaded with talent, ranging from Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence to North Dakota State’s Trey Lance. There are plenty of positives in Jones’ game, but some negatives.

Former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky joined ESPN to describe how Jones could take the next step and be a succesful quarterback at the professional level.

Orlovsky, who spent 12 seasons in the NFL with five different teams, understands that the biggest knock on Jones is his size, which leads to questions about his athleticism. However, he believes Jones can overcome that obstacle by being a smarter, more hardworking quarterback than others.

Studying film and being put into a fast-paced offense, similar to that of Alabama’s could lead to Jones being a young star in the NFL.

Mel Kiper’s latest mock draft has Jones going  No. 8 overall to the Carolina Panthers, who are lacking a few pieces.

PFN’s latest 2021 NFL mock draft predicts 5 Alabama players in first round

Alabama players seem to always pop up on the first night of the NFL draft, the latest PFN 2021 NFL mock draft has five Crimson Tide players.

The 2021 NFL draft is a little over a month away, which means mock drafts are heating up and rumors surrounding potential landing spots are plentiful.

It seems impossible to discuss the first round of any recent NFL draft without mentioning the numerous Alabama products, and this year will likely carry on that tradition.

Pro Football Network’s Matthew Valdovino produced a mock draft that has five Crimson Tide stars in the first round.

Is Tua Tagovailoa hinting at a reunion in Miami with Najee Harris?

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa gave an interesting quote during an interview that could be hinting at who they might draft.

The Miami Dolphins selected Tua Tagovailoa with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft, hoping that he will be the franchise quarterback they’ve been so desperately searching for since the retirement of Dan Marino.

With Tagovailoa’s rookie season out of the way, it has become clear that bringing in the Crimson Tide product was the second-to-last move that needed to be made in order to complete their rebuild.

The Dolphins went 10-6 in the 2020 season, just missing the playoffs. As they look ahead to the 2021 season, things could look a bit different.

Miami holds two first-round picks (3, 18) and two second-round picks (36, 50), they will likely utilize everyone of those early-round picks to address a positional need that can get them to that next level of play.

One player that has been on Dolphins fans’ radars is Alabama running back Najee Harris.

Harris was a stud under Nick Saban, but he was also very close friends with his former quarterback, Tagovailoa.

In fact, during a recent interview with Yahoo’s Eric Edholm, Tagovailoa speaks about Harris’ playing abilities, as well as a potential hint that Harris might be playing alongside him in 2021.

“He’s a well-rounded running back,” said Harris “He’s very athletic. He can run. He can make a man miss. He can power through someone.

“And then he’s very good in the pass game. Not just with his catching, I think what’s overshadowed by his success with the catches and the runs is his blocking.”

Then came this unprompted quote, which some fans think is a hint.

“He’s going to be a fun guy to watch this upcoming season,” Tagovailoa said. “Hopefully we’re on the same team.”

2021 NFL Draft: Where Does Mac Jones Rank Among Top 15 QBs?

Mac Jones is among the best QBs available in the 2021 NFL Draft, but where does Crissy Froyd rank the Alabama quarterback? Find out here.

There are several quality quarterbacks available in 2021 NFL Draft. Trevor Lawrence has generally been ranked as the top available, but BYU’s Zach Wilson has somewhat closed the gap.

Where a guy ranks among the signal callers available in April will obviously have a strong tie to how high he goes.

For example, if Alabama’s Mac Jones is considered the second-ranked, then he’ll probably be the second player selected. If he’s ranked No. 5 or 6, then the back half of the first round is more likely.

So, where does Crissy Froyd with LSU Wire and Pro Football Network rank  Jones? Well, she recently released her order, and it was interesting to say the least. Check out the link below to see for yourself, and let us know what you think.

The 2021 NFL Draft is quickly approaching. The draft is set to start on April 29 and run through the beginning of May, so it won’t be long until we find out where several former Alabama stars end up in the NFL.

Many are wondering where a lot of the Crimson Tide players are projected to go. Individual teams can be difficult to predict, but the round range is something that tends to be accurate.

Granted, we’ve seen players fall, especially guys like Mack Wilson, Deionte Thompson and Isaiah Buggs, but the projections are normally pretty accurate.

So without further ado, here are the ranges for all 13 of Alabama’s draft-eligible guys. Enjoy!

DeVonta Smith believes he should be featured on cover of NCAA video game

DeVonta Smith “most definitely” thinks he should be featured on the revamped NCAA football video game. Is he right?

This video originally appeared on Sports Pulse with USA TODAY.

SportsPulse: NFL stars couldn’t hide their excitement for the NCAA video game to come back this year. Heisman winner Devonta Smith also wasn’t shy about why he should be on the cover of it.

DeVonta Smith prefers Mac Jones over Tua Tagovailoa, so what?

Alabama’s Heisman-winning wide receiver DeVonta Smith has reportedly made comments stating that he prfers Mac Jones over Tua Tagovailoa.

Recently-surfaced quotes from a source that may or may not have been present at the Senior Bowl make it seem like DeVonta Smith is not a fan of his former quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa.

According to Albert Breer of the MMBQ, Smith was asked a very vague question, “Tua Tagovailoa or Mac Jones,” to which he responded “Jones.”

The source of Breer’s also mentions that his answer was “… bold and definitive about it.”

Now, social media believes Smith was taking shots at Tagovailoa, who is about to enter his second season as the quarterback for the Miami Dolphins and has received plenty of offseason critcism for his rookie performance.

Is it a jab at the 2020 No. 5 overall pick? An NFL draft smoke-screen? Just preference from the Heisman-winning wide receiver?

Tagovailoa started for the Crimson Tide in 2018 and 2019, where he threw 425 completions. Only 110 of those went to Smith, the others were dispersed among Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs III and Jaylen Waddle, all three of which either were not on the team, or did not serve a large role on the 2020 season.

With Jones at quarterback, Smith caught 117 of his 311 completions.

He also became the most decorated wide receiver in college football history while catching passes from Mac Jones.

So, for starters, let’s understand that Smith prefers the quarterback that made him the most successful. That makes sense.

Smith is now likely going to be the first or second wide receiver taken in the draft. His position is basically set, depending on how teams value him compared to Ja’marr Chase.

However, Jones’ draft position is still under review. Trevor Lawrence is the definite No. 1 overall pick, but there are a few other quarterbacks floating around the first round, Jones being one of them.

With Tagovailoa being such a highly praised quarterback in the 2020 draft class that really only consisted of himself, Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert, there was not much to do as far as needing to “raise his draft value.”

Smith may be playing a game with NFL scouts, though. If Tagovailoa was so highly sought after, but the Heisman-winning wide receiver likes Jones more, then surely Jones is a talent that they all overlooked.

Could this be Smith’s way of giving Jones an additional boost before the 2021 NFL draft? Maybe, but that is all speculation.

Smith is tied to the Miami Dolphins at No. 3 overall, so there’s a chance Tagovailoa could try to change his mind once he gets to the league and starts catching passes from his form quarterback.

Alabama produces great players on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. However, there is one aspect of the game that often gets universally overlooked by the casual fan: special teams.

Will Reichard, the Crimson Tide’s sophomore kicker, did not miss a single kick in Alabama’s 2020 national championship-winning season.

Who delivered the ball to Mac Jones to hold for Reichard’s kicks? Well, that would be Thomas Fletcher.

Fletcher has been with the program since 2017, and has not missed a beat.

You may not know his name, but that’s probably okay with Fletcher. The only way a longsnapper’s name is known is if they aren’t doing their job.

Alabama currently has one former longsnapper in the NFL, Carson Tinker, who went undrafted in 2013, but snapped for the Jacksonville Jaguars, and is now a member of the New York Giants.

Fletcher took to twitter to announce that he has accepted an invitation to attend the 2021 NFL combine ahead of the NFL draft in April.

RUMOR: Najee Harris has met with the New York Jets

Former Alabama star running back Najee Harris has reportedly met with the New York Jets, who could be in a position to draft him.

Former Alabama running back Najee Harris had a phenomenal final season with the Crimson Tide, being the lead rusher on an offense that had both strong passing and running games.

With his success, the running back finished No. 5 in the final Heisman voting, and he’s likely cemented himself as a first-round selection.

In recent years, running backs have not been seen as draftable players in the first round. Teams will select a back in the early rounds beyond the first, or solve their backfield issues with a free agent.

However, with his abilities and proven skill sets, Najee is the type of running back that will likely not slip past the first 32 picks.

Ali Ashraf, of Loyal Network, claims that the New York Jets have reportedly met with Najee.

Other outlets have not corroborated the report, but the Jets having interest in Najee would not be out of the ordinary.

While the team is in the process of rebuilding their franchise, though it has felt this way for years, eyes are focused on their quarterback situation. Will Sam Darnold be under center for the team, or will they look to bring in a new face?

What’s being overlooked is their need for a strong and consistent running back.

Assuming the Jets don’t trade away their first-round picks, they will have the No. 2 and No. 23 overall selections.

Najee has been tied to picks as high as No. 18 with the Miami Dolphins. However, 23 would not be seen as a reach, assuming he’s still available.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to publish any updates regarding Alabama players entering the 2021 NFL draft.
