The Boston Celtics have been eliminated from the Eastern Conference finals once again just a season after making the NBA Finals, prompting discussions about the future of star forward Jaylen Brown.
While Celtics team president Brad Stevens expressed a desire to keep Brown, there are concerns about offering him a supermax contract on a five-year extension worth up to $290 million.
Brown’s performance in the recent series against the Miami Heat may have exposed weaknesses in his game, making it questionable whether he can truly reach superstar status. The Celtics would then have three options: Give him the supermax extension, keep him as an unrestricted free agent next year, or trade him.
Trading Brown for a package of players and draft picks could provide the Celtics with more flexibility and potential for improvement according to the host of the “MDJ” podcast.
