Cam Newton has been cut by the New England Patriots

The former Auburn quarterback was cut on Tuesday.

The biggest cut of the offseason has happened.

The New England Patriots have cut former Auburn quarterback Cam Newton.

After starting last season, the Patriots drafted Alabama quarterback Mac Jones in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft.

Jones impressed the NFL world over the course of the preseason but many assumed it would not have been enough for him to win the job. Evidently, that was not correct.

Newton will be a free agent after the news.

Rap music is distracting Cam Newton?

Former Auburn and current Patriots quarterback Cam Newton draws new criticism.

Cam Newton has consistently been held to a different standard.

The New England Patriots quarterback has been engaged in an offseason battle with Alabama rookie Mac Jones.

Scott Zolak, a former Patriots quarterback, has said that rap music is distracting Newton because he is consistently dancing in between plays.

The Morning Huddle fantasy football newsletter talked about it in their Saturday email.

“A former Patriot QB is saying that he believes rap music is hurting Cam Newton’s game. Seriously. That was a real quote. Forget the numerous off surgeries from the punishment Cam took from playing in the NFL the past decade, rap music is the real reason Cam Newton has regressed. Somehow didn’t affect Tom Brady.”

The Philadelphia Eagles waive Kerryon Johnson

The former Auburn great gets waived.

The former Auburn Tiger has been let go again.

After being cut by the Detroit Lions earlier in the year, the Philadelphia Eagles had to get their roster down to 85 players.

A casualty of that was Kerryon Johnson. The former SEC Offensive Player of the Year has had a hard time staying healthy in the league.

He was listed as week-to-week with a knee injury by the Eagles not long ago. He missed the team’s preseason game Thursday night.

Johnson was selected in the second round by the Detroit Lions in the 2018 NFL draft.

WATCH: K.J. Britt talks about his time at Auburn

Former Auburn linebacker KJ Britt discussed his time on the Plains after being drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

K.J. Britt’s last season as an Auburn Tiger didn’t go exactly as planned as the linebacker missed almost the entire season after suffering a thumb injury in the second game against Georgia.

That hasn’t kept him from loving his time on the Plains as the newly drafted Tampa Bay Buccaneer took a minute to talk about his love and experience at Auburn.

The Cam Newton experiment in New England is not over.

On Friday, it was announced that the quarterback and the Patriots have agreed to a one-year deal to keep the former NFL MVP in Foxborough.

Per ESPN:

The contract is worth up to close to $14 million, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. About $6 million of the deal is tied to incentives, a source told ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

Newton, who will turn 32 in May, hoped to return to New England after signing a modest one-year deal with the team in 2020. On the “I Am Athlete” podcast in late February, he said he would be open to another one-year deal in New England.

“I’m getting tired of changing [teams],” the quarterback said. “I am at a point in my career where I know way more than I did last year. Yes, I would go back.”

Cam Newton: ‘Bill Belichick is the most misunderstood person in all of sports’

While the Cam Newton experiment in New England didn’t work out as well as the former Auburn quarterback and Patriots hoped, the former NFL MVP did get a close look at the bright mind of Bill Belichick.

Newton also was honest with himself and how he played.

“There were times last year, I knew I was about to get pulled,” Newton said. “I’m a realist.”

During the interview on I Am Athletes, the 2010 Heisman Trophy winner went on to compliment the six-time Super Bowl winner, stating that people don’t know the real Belichick.

“I think Bill Belichick is the most misunderstood person in all of sports,” Newton said. “He’s dope as ****. Like, he is a cool dude. He understands the game. He’s like a historian of the game and for you to just sit down and chat with him … he’s teaching the game.”

It’s interesting to see the respect that Newton, who had his worst season in the NFL in 2020, has for his former coach.

It didn’t take long for the kid who heckled Cam Newton at his football camp this past weekend to realize he had messed up royally.

On Sunday, we posted the video of a participant at Newton’s football camp heckling him and calling him a vulgar word. On Monday, the player, Jseth Owens out of Collegeville, Pa., posted an apology to Newton on Twitter.

Newton has been widely praised for how he handled the situation by not only media but professional athletes himself.
