The 2021 SEC football schedule was released. There’s anger, excitement, and a whole lot of looking ahead to what should be a full schedule again this fall as if 2020 never happened.

Here are five things about the schedule that matter including who misses the big teams from the other division, the non-conference analysis, the one big difference in this year’s slate, the winners and losers, and starting out with …

5.  Who gets the rested teams?

There was a time not all that long ago when SEC teams took an Alabamacation.

You have the Crimson Tide on the schedule? Okay … just make sure you get a week off to rest up and get ready first. In the end that time off usually didn’t matter much, but that’s changed now.

Every SEC team has one off week and one light scrimmage against an FCS or some other cream-filled pastry of a paycheck game, but this year, that easy date isn’t always coming before a key SEC date. That matters, too – sometimes it’s nice to get a few easy games to gear up.

Which current SEC college football programs are the greatest of all-time according to the UPI and USA Today Coaches final polls?

Using a ranking system taking all the AP final college football polls and assigning 25 points to the national champion, 24 for the final No. 2 team, 23 for the No. 3 team on down.

There’s no question who the elephant is in the room – it’s Alabama’s spot up top and it’s not even close. However, after 2019 and the national championship, LSU moved past Tennessee to the No. 2 all-time spot, and Georgia is now tied with the Vols.

One note on this – this is made up of current SEC programs and factoring in their histories. Obviously Texas A&M, Missouri, and others are new to the SEC world over the last few years, but all of their records count.

Again, this is based on the CFN formula. This isn’t any official ranking coming from USA TODAY or the Coaches Poll.

Why Alabama Will Win

Nothing is stopping this thing.

The Crimson Tide just keep getting better and better, roaring against LSU with 650 yards last week in the 55-17 win, It’s not just that the games are dominant practices, it’s that they’re essentially over by halftime, if not sooner.

Arkansas might be playing better this year, but it’s on a three-game losing streak – including a loss to LSU – allowing close to 1,500 yards over those three games with no luck defensively in any phase.

The Hogs are struggling a bit to move the chains on third downs, and the offensive style doesn’t help at all in a game like this – the O can’t slow things down.

Arkansas is dead last in the SEC in time of possession. It can strike quickly, but keeping the Bama O off the field is a must. With no real pass rush, there’s going to be a problem.

Week 15 College Schedule

Why Arkansas Will Win

Bombs away.

The Arkansas defense doesn’t have the ability stop the Tide attack, but the offense has rolled whether or was Feleipe Franks under center, or KJ Jefferson, who got the start last week against Missouri and threw three touchdown passes and ran for a score.

The offense is efficient enough to at least make Alabama keep working, and the team has been great overall at not putting itself in a bad position with turnovers. The Hogs lead the SEC in turnover margin, giving it up just twice int eh last six games.

Arkansas has to be perfect, and …

What’s Going To Happen

Could Bama be just trying to get through this and move on as quickly as possible?

The program might be all about process and focus, but the battle with Florida for the SEC Championship the week after is all that truly matters. It’s going to be a tense game with everyone holding their breath that no one gets hurt before the big battle, and just as big a concern will be a plucky Hog team that will score just enough to make this interesting … at least for a little while.

Missouri (4-3) vs Arkansas (3-5) Game Preview

Why Arkansas Will Win

The Hogs aren’t screwing up enough to matter.

They’ve been able to tighten up, with just two giveaways over the last five tams, and they haven’t lost the turnover margin since the opener against Georgia – even then, they were -1.

Missouri doesn’t turn the ball over all that often, but it also doesn’t take the ball away – the D is dead last in the SEC at generating turnovers.

The Tigers have given it up multiple times in three games. The Hogs are 3-1 when forcing two takeaways or more, and 0-4 when they don’t.

Offensively, Feleipe Franks continues to be strong, he’s hitting on the big plays more than he has all season, and he’s coming off a season-high 339-yard day in the loss to LSU, but …

Week 14 College Schedule

Why Missouri Will Win

The Razorbacks lost their star running back. Rakeem Boyd didn’t play against LSU, and now he’s opting out on the rest of the season to get ready for the NFL Draft. Trelon Smith is the team’s leading rusher – and he’s had a stronger season than Boyd – but losing Boyd still hurts.

Lost in the history-making moment when Vanderbilt’s Sarah Fuller suited up to play was how good Missouri was last week in the 41-0 loss. Fuller was only able to come up with one kickoff because Vandy never got in field goal range.

The Tigers ripped through the Commodore defense in all ways, the defense allowed just 196 yards, and very, very quietly, they’re 4-1 in the last five games with only a loss to Florida.

CFN Experts Picks: College

What’s Going To Happen

Arkansas continues to be terrific compared to the disaster of the last few seasons, but Mizzou is getting better and better as the season has gone on.

The defense leads the SEC against the pass, the offense capitalizes on every opportunity, and the team isn’t going to make enough mistakes for the Hogs to pull this off.

All of the CFN Fearless Predictions

Arkansas (3-5) vs Missouri (3-3) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Arkansas Will Win

The Arkansas passing game continues to be terrific. Considering it didn’t go anywhere over the last few seasons – the Hogs failed to hit 200 yards in the last seven games of 2019 – and even with the loss to LSU last week, the season-high 339 yards through the air are still strong.

The biggest change for Arkansas this year – besides being merely competent – is turnover margin. The Hogs were -1 in the opener against Georgia, and have been a +9 overall since then – they haven’t lost the turnover battle in any of the last seven games.

Missouri has only come up with five takeaways all year and is -4 overall. Arkansas should be at least +1.

Why Missouri Will Win

The Missouri defense continues to be terrific on third downs, leading the SEC allowing teams to convert just 36% of their chances.

This is a steady Mizzou team, but it’s not spectacular. It’ll get to 200 passing yards, the running game will struggle, and the D will get off the field – no one has converted 40% of the time on third downs over the last four games.

Arkansas might be vastly better offensively, but it’s miserable at keeping the chains moving, converting an SEC-second-worst 33% of the time and it’s last in the conference in time of possession. Mizzou should have the ball for at least 33 minutes.

What’s Going To Happen

Missouri has owned this new rivalry with four wins in a row and in six of the last seven meetings since losing the 2003 Independence Bowl.

Don’t expect fireworks, but at home, the Tigers will control the clock, keep the chains moving, and will withstand a good day from an improving Hog offense by coming up with a few late scoring drives to survive.
