NFL admits mistake on penalty against Steelers on Sunday night

Mike Tomlin got his apology from the NFL on a blown call.

The most outstanding part of Sunday night’s blowout win by the Pittsburgh Steelers might have been the play of their special teams. Pittsburgh blocked two kicks, although the one by safety Minkah Fitzpatrick was negated by a penalty. The officials said Fitzpatrick used players for leverage to go up and over the line of scrimmage.

It only took one look at the replay to see that was a bad call. Fitzpatrick vaulted the line of scrimmage and barely made contact with anyone on his way to the football. On Tuesday when head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the media, he said the league notified him and he got an apology for the missed call.

Fortunately, this blown call had no significant impact on the outcome of the game. The Steelers beat the Jets handily 37-15 to improve to 5-2 on the season.

Mike Tomlin hilariously outsmarted Aaron Rodgers in Week 7

Mike Tomlin showcased high-level coaching on one specific play that got the better of Aaron Rodgers in comedic fashion.

What was supposed to be a wonderful reunion for Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams turned sour as the Pittsburgh Steelers pulled the welcome mat out from under the pair in Week 7. Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin did not make things any easier on the veteran quarterback as he showcased some high-level coaching late in the contest.

Midway through the fourth quarter, with Pittsburgh having all but slammed the door on a potential New York Jets comeback, Rodgers tried to pull a sneaky veteran move on fourth down with four yards to go, attempting to catch the Steelers defense with too many men on the field. The subsequent penalty on Pittsburgh would have allowed the Jets to not only automatically get the first down but continue their efforts in scoring. However, Tomlin proved to Rodgers that there are levels to this game.

Tomlin’s smile paints the satisfying, symbolic picture of what many Steelers fans heard from doubters and naysayers surrounding the team leading into Week 7, and how good it felt for the team to silence the critics.

QB Russell Wilson broke an almost 70-year-old Steelers’ debut record

In his seasonal debut in Week 7, Russell Wilson broke a Steelers’ passing record that has been held for almost 70 years.

Russ cooked the New York Jets on Sunday Night Football, and no, I’m not talking about Russell Wilson’s signature ‘Dangerwich.’

After the controversial decision to bench the 4-2 Justin Fields, coming off a fantastic offensive showing in Week 6, Head Coach Mike Tomlin was definitely in the hot seat heading into Week 7. However, Tomlin’s intuition proved correct, and Wilson shocked the NFL world.

Wilson not only showed an impressive ability to finish drives with touchdowns, but he also broke a Steelers record in his debut. The previous record for most passing yards by a Steelers quarterback was held by Earl Morrall, set all the way back in 1957 with 249 yards. Wilson’s 264 passing yards officially stamped Mr. Unlimited’s name into the Steelers’ history books.

If Russ didn’t silence doubters after tearing through an elite Jets defense, nothing will. Wilson will look to keep this momentum going as his team hosts the New York Giants next week on Monday Night Football, on October 28th at 8:15 PM EST.

Steelers beat Davante Adams in back-to-back weeks

It might be safe to say Davante Adams is sick of Pittsburgh. The ‘Steel City’ has beat down his team not once, but twice in two weeks.

In hilarious fashion, the Pittsburgh Steelers have now defeated WR Davante Adams’ teams in back-to-back weeks. The former Raiders wide receiver has had to watch the Steelers score 30-plus points en route to his defeat in consecutive games, whether he was on the bench in Week 6 or on the field in Week 7.

While Adams miraculously ‘healed’ from the hamstring injury that had kept him sidelined before his trade to New York, the veteran wide receiver was completely invisible on Sunday Night Football against the Steelers.

Ironically, Adams was also absent last week from the field in his former team’s loss to Pittsburgh in Las Vegas, but for all the wrong reasons.

Jokes aside, it was nice to see Adams reuniting with his former quarterback Aaron Rodgers. However, Adams realistically had a chance to be on a 5-2 team right now, but instead finds himself in a very familiar situation—on an uncompetitive team.

Steelers injury updates: 2 key Steelers lost in win vs Jets

Donte Jackson and Montravius Adams were both injured in Sunday’s win.

After the Pittsburgh Steelers 37-15 win over the New York Jets, head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the media about the win and offered a brief update on the injuries that occurred. He noted several players had what Tomlin likes to call bumps and bruises associated with play and lost noted two more significant injuries.

Tomlin followed up on cornerback Donte Jackson and defensive tackle Montravius Adams. Tomlin said Jackson had a shoulder injury and was unable to return and Adams suffered a knee injury and missed the remainder of the game.

Jackson’s absence opened the door for James Pierre and the Jets took advantage of the mismatch. For Adams, the Jets made a strong effort to run the ball without the backup nose tackle in the rotation but the rest of the defense stepped up to fill in the gaps.

Tomlin will offer an update at his usual Tuesday press conference when the team begins preparations to take on the New York Giants.

Sorry Justin Fields, this is Russell Wilson’s team now

After leading the Steelers to score 37 points in Week 7, QB Russell Wilson has more than earned his starting position moving forward.

Much to the chagrin of Steelers fans, Mike Tomlin appears to have made the right call with the quarterback change in Week 7. A Russell Wilson-led Steelers team scored 31 unanswered points to close out the game, finishing with 37 points overall in the contest.

Fans argued that it should be impossible to bench QB Justin Fields, who led the team to a 4-2 record, in favor of a returning Wilson.  Fields had helped lift the ‘Steel City’ to a win in Las Vegas last week, and his offense scored 32 points overall.  It seemed ludicrous to bench the young athletic quarterback.

However, it was clear to fans in attendance and those of us watching the nationally televised Sunday Night Football game around the world, Wilson is the best option moving forward. The veteran still boasts one of the best deep balls in the league, and his decision-making was flawless in the Steelers’ Week 7 victory.

Wilson’s final stat line: 16-29, 264 passing yards, 3 total TDs

Steelers CB Beanie Bishop wants Aaron Rodgers to autograph his interceptions

Beanie Bishop had his first two NFL interceptions on Sunday night.

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie cornerback Beanie Bishop had a huge coming out party on Sunday night. The undrafted rookie out of West Virginia was pressed into duty as the team’s starting slot cornerback at the start of the season and had been up and down in the first six games.

But on Sunday night, Bishop got his first and second NFL interceptions off of New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers. In a postgame interview with NBC sideline reporter Melissa Stark, Bishop broke down how he picked off the future Hall of Famer twice but then he surprised us.

Stark asked Bishop what he was going to do with the two interception balls. Bishop took Stark and everyone by surprise when he said he wants to try to get Rodgers to autograph them. That’s a huge ask and we hope he isn’t disappointed when Rodgers declines that request.

Steelers blow out Jets in all phases

The Steelers blew out the Jets 37-15 with Russell Wilson under center.

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin made a controversial decision this week to bench quarterback Justin Fields in favor or Russell Wilson to take on the New York Jets. After one game, the move looks brilliant as the Steelers rattle off 31 unanswered points to beat the Jets 37-15 and improve to 5-2 on the season.

Wilson looked rusty out of the gates but after a rough first quarter, Wilson and the rest of the Steelers settled down and took control of the game. Wilson took plenty of shots downfield resulting in 264 passing yards with 111 of those going to wide receiver George Pickens. The run game was on point as well with Najee Harris finishing with 108 rushing yards and both Pickens and Harris found the end zone.

The Steelers defense was not to be outdone. They held Jets running back Breece Hall to just 38 rushing yards. Jets QB Aaron Rodgers did throw for 276 yards but much of that came early and once the defense settled in they put the clamps on. Speaking of clamps, rookie cornerback Beanie Bishop finished with two interceptions. The first two of his young career.

Jets’ guard headed to hospital after hit from Steelers’ LB

Jets’ offensive guard Xavier Newman took a scary hit from linebacker Patrick Queen in Week 7’s contest on Sunday Night Football. He was stretchered off the field and is being taken to the hospital.

Fans of both the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets held their breath when Jets offensive guard Xavier Newman lay motionless following a hit by linebacker Patrick Queen. The hit occurred during a runback after cornerback Beanie Bishop Jr.’s second interception of the night, as Queen aimed to clear a path for his teammate.

Initially, the hit appeared to be a routine blocking assignment, but things quickly took a turn for the worse when Newman remained motionless on the field and was eventually carted off on a stretcher.

According to reports, he was able to squeeze the athletic trainer’s hand and had movement in his limbs, providing a small relief after the terrifying incident. Newman is a pivotal member of the New York Jets’ offensive line, but his long-term health is far more important than one football game.  Fans from both teams now hope and pray for Newman’s quick recovery.
