Notre Dame jumps four spots and is back in the top 10 of the AP Top 25 poll

(This story was updated to correct a misspelling/typo.)

Notre Dame’s destruction of Navy has given the Fighting Irish a boost in the AP Top 25 poll. The Irish jump from No. 12 to No. 8.

Navy falls out of the top 25, although the Midshipmen did receive votes.

The top 10 is now Oregon, Georgia, Penn State, Ohio State, Miami (Florida), Texas, Tennessee, Notre Dame, BYU and Texas A&M.

Big movers other than the Irish include Texas A&M after it beat LSU — which falls eight spots to No. 16 — Illinois (down four spots to No. 24 after being blown out by Oregon) and Missouri (down four spots after being shutout in a blow out by No. 14 Alabama).

Notre Dame Week 9 highlight: Kedren Young gets first career touchdown

Kedren Young gets his first career score.

First it was Leonard Moore getting his first career interception, and now it’s Kedren Young getting his first career touchdown as No. 12 Notre Dame is blowing out No. 24 Navy at MetLife Stadium.

Young got his achievement shortly after Navy muffed a punt. He ran the ball in from 4 yards out to cap a 4-play, 16-yard drive that took 2:12 off the clock.

The score gave Notre Dame, a team that probably needs to win every game remaining on its schedule, a 51-14 lead over previously undefeated Navy.

The Midshipmen may drop out of the rankings with this loss.

Notre Dame Week 9 highlight: Another Navy muffed punt

Yet another muffed punt for Navy against Notre Dame.

No. 12 Notre Dame has recovered not one but two muffed punts by No. 24 Navy.

This time, Eli Heidenreich fumbled a James Rendell punt that was recovered by Rod Heard II.

This set the Fighting Irish up at the Midshipmen 16-yard-line. Once again, Notre Dame had a short field due to a Navy turnover.

Navy has had several unforced errors against the Fighting Irish today at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, which is a big reason why Notre Dame is dominating this game.

Notre Dame Week 9 highlight: Leonard Moore intercepts one in the end zone

Notre Dame gets a big interception from Leonard Moore.

Notre Dame is starting to really put its matchup with No. 24 Navy away, thanks to Leonard Moore.

The No. 12 Fighting Irish killed a Navy drive when Midshipmen quarterback Blake Horvath threw towards the end zone on fourth down and 7 from the Notre Dame 17.

Notre Dame cornerback Leonard Moore was able to snag the ball for a touchback.

The Fighting Irish are keeping their playoff argument strong for yet another week, while the previously undefeated Midshipmen are probably going to drop out of the rankings.

Notre Dame Week 9 highlight: Jaylen Sneed recovers a fumble in the end zone

Notre Dame gets more points off of turnovers versus Navy.

No. 12 Notre Dame is putting a hurting on No. 24 Navy at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, and turnovers by the Midshipmen are playing a huge part.

Midshipmen quarterback Blake Horvath fumbled just outside of Navy’s end zone and Notre Dame linebacker Jaylen Sneed scooped it up for the score. With a missed extra point, the touchdown put Notre Dame up 44-14 with 4:18 to go in the third quarter.

Navy’s offense was expected to give the Notre Dame defense fits, and while the Midshipmen have had a few chunk plays, turnovers have hampered Navy and given the Irish control of the game.

Notre Dame gets an explosive catch from Beaux Collins

No. 12 Notre Dame has responded after No. 24 used an efficient drive to cut into the Fighting Irish’s lead.

Notre Dame led 31-7 before Navy got a score on an Eli Heidenreich 1-yard touchdown run.

The Fighting Irish responded with a 7-play, 75-yard touchdown drive that ended when wide receiver Beaux Collins caught a 37-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Riley Leonard.

Notre Dame Week 9 highlight: Jeremiyah Love does it again

Jeremiyah Love has two touchdowns in the first half against Navy.

No. 12 Notre Dame is taking advantage of mistakes made by No. 24 Navy.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish running back Jeremiyah Love capped off a 9-play, 40-yard drive that took 4:57 off the clock with a 2-yard touchdown run. The drive followed a muffed punt by the Navy Midshipmen.

Navy is trying to avoid letting this game slip away, while Notre Dame continues to build a lead as the Fighting Irish need a win to remain playoff contention.

Navy’s offense can give opposing defenses fits, and the Midshipmen have had a few explosive chunk plays against the Irish, but Navy turnovers have allowed the Fighting Irish to control the game.

Notre Week 9 highlight: Fighting Irish recover muffed Navy punt

Notre Dame gets another Navy fumble.

No. 24 Navy keeps turning the ball over to No. 12 Notre Dame.

Midshipman Isaiah Bryant fumbled a James Rendell punt and the Irish pounced on it.

Navy has turned the ball over three times on fumbles, though Notre Dame hasn’t converted all three opportunities into points. One fumble led to a Notre Dame touchdown, one led to a missed Notre Dame field goal, and this fumble has led to an Irish drive that’s still ongoing.

Notre Dame Week 9 highlight: Jeremiyah Love takes it 64 yards to the house

Notre Dame’s Jeremiyah Love gets the momentum back.

Jeremiyah Love remains one of No. 12 Notre Dame’s biggest offensive weapons.

Look at his 64-yard touchdown run against No. 24 Navy for the latest example.

Love broke lose and took it to the house on the third play of a drive that would take 75 yards and 1:03 off the clock.

It made for a nice statement by the Notre Dame offense after the Fighting Irish defense allowed its longest run of the season. Navy quarterback Blake Horvath had a 47-yard touchdown run, giving Navy life after the Irish missed a field goal.

With the Irish lead cut to 14-7, Love’s run put Notre Dame back up by two touchdowns.

Notre Dame Week 9 highlight: Junior Tuihalamaka recovers fumble

Notre Dame has recovered two fumbles early against Navy.

No. 12 Notre Dame has gotten another turnover against No. 24 Navy. Unfortunately, this one didn’t turn into any points, as backup kicker Zac Yoakam missed a 36-yard field goal.

Navy Midshipmen quarterback Blake Horvath fumbled, and Notre Dame defensive lineman Junior Tuihalamaka jumped on it.

The Fighting Irish have recovered two Navy fumbles so far and lead 14-0 against Navy in a matchup that is import for Notre Dame’s playoff chances.

The Irish have responded well to a Navy offense that has been explosive, though the Midshipmen have yet to play a team with Notre Dame’s talent.
