5 takeaways from Mike Tomlin’s Tuesday Steelers press conference

Mike Tomlin was his usual blunt self at his Tuesday Steelers press conference.

On Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the media to talk about last week’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers and the lead into this week’s game against the Cleveland Browns. The news was bad on all fronts but here are the big takeaways from the presser.

Steelers crumble in latest TD NFL Power Rankings

The Steelers fell to the Niners on Sunday and fell in the power rankings on Monday.

This year was going to be different, right? Right? Maybe not. After an offseason of hype, the Pittsburgh Steelers let the San Francisco 49ers come into Acrisure Stadium last Saturday and bully them on both sides of the football to the tune of a 30-7 loss. How will the NFL national media take this loss given how hyped so many of them were for this breakout team?

Our friends over at Touchdown Wire were really high on the Steelers and so this one hit them hard. In their latest power rankings, the Steelers fell from No. 8 to No. 17 and rightfully so. Here’s what they had to say about the performance:

T.J. Watt played great- three sacks, two forced fumbles a fumble recovery and a tackle for loss. Everyone else stunk. After an off-season full of excitement and a preseason that showed a ton of promise, the Steelers laid a massive egg.

There’s no time for the Steelers to sit around and feel sorry for themselves. Pittsburgh now has to get right and prepare to take on the Cleveland Browns on Monday Night Football. No Steelers team under head Mike Tomlin has started the season 0-2 and made the playoffs. The season could be on the line in less than a week.

Steeler Nation let the team down with lack of attendance on Sunday

Many Steelers fans sold their tickets to Niners fans instead of showing up for the home opener.

When the NFL schedule makers put out the 2023 schedule, they finally granted the Pittsburgh Steelers a home game in Week One. I mean, you had to go back all the way to 2014 for the last time the fans had this opportunity. So you just knew Steeler Nation was going to come out in droves and support their team, right? Right?

Not so much. The Steelers fans really let the team down on Sunday in a way we typically see opposing teams do when Pittsburgh comes to down. The Steelers get its first home opener in nearly a decade and instead of showing, were fine with selling their tickets to San Francisco 49ers fans.

It has been a long time since we’ve seen as much of the opposing team’s colors at a Pittsburgh home game as we did on Sunday. The Niners fans were loud and rowdy and supported their team. Mainly because there were so many of them. This was a huge letdown for anyone watching at home.

If the Steelers continue to lose, look for this trend to continue at home. And on some level that makes sense. But I am baffled how Steeler Nation was okay with what happened against the Niners and passed up a chance to see their team play after the long offseason.

4 big overreactions from the Steelers loss to the Niners

This week you are going to hear a lot of gloom and doom about the Steelers after that loss to the Niners.

When a team with so much promise falls absolutely flat, the overreactions are going to come. The Pittsburgh Steelers crumbled against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday and were bad almost across the board in the 30-7 loss. here are the four big overreactions we expect to hear this week.

Studs and duds from the Steelers embarassing loss to the Niners

T.J. Watt stepped up and Kenny Pickett fell flat for the Steelers this week.

The betting line in this week’s game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and San Francisco 49ers was only 2 points. But once the game got started it was clear just how much better the Niners are than the Steelers en route to a 30-7 blowout win. Much of the Steelers roster was underwhelming but a few guys stepped up.

Here are our studs and duds from Pittsburgh in Week One.

Steelers QB Kenny Pickett’s poor game stirs up the internet bigtime

Kenny Pickett let the Steelers and their fans down on Sunday and the fans let him know on Twitter.

After what was literally a perfect preseason, the Kenny Pickett hype train was going full speed ahead. The Pittsburgh Steelers second-year quarterback came into Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers looking like an MVP candidate. But it didn’t take long to realize this was not to be Pickett’s day. Pickett’s dreadful performance got all of Twitter fired up and here are some of the lowlights.

Niners dominate Steelers through 2 quarters

Nothing has gone right for the Steelers against the Niners.

The first half is in the books and the Pittsburgh Steelers should want to forget just how awful that was. After an incredible offseason of work and a near-perfect preseason, the Steelers have fallen flat in the first half, trailing the Niners 20-7. Here are our depressing takeaways from the first half as we hope Pittsburgh can turn things around.

Steelers DT Cam Heyward questionable to return with groin injury

The last thing the Steelers need is to be without Cam Heyward.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have gotten off to a miserable start against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. To compound just how poor the team has performed, the team now could be without its top defensive lineman.

During the television broadcast, sideline reporter Pam Oliver reported that Heyward is out with a groin injury and is questionable to return. This is in addition to defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi who is playing while dealing with a foot injury.

The Niners offensive line has physically battered the Steelers defensive front all game long and with 8:32 left in the first half, Pittsburgh trails the Niners 17-0 and seems to have no answer to the level of physicality and intensity San Francisco is playing with. Not having Heyward on the field only makes this worse.
