Gimme him: Which Niners player do you want on the Steelers?

Gimme him: Which Niners player do you want on the Steelers?

The Pittsburgh Steelers have rolled over a huge chunk of its roster this offseason. And there’s no denying this team is much improved. But this week as they prepare to take on the San Francisco 49ers, where could the Steelers get better? And which player from the Niners would you steal for Pittsburgh if they could have anyone?

This one is almost too easy. The Niners have some great players including EDGE Joey Bosa, linebacker Fred Warner and tight end George Kittle. But none of those guys would be much of an improvement if any at all over who they would replace in the lineup.

So who is the pick? Obviously, it is left tackle Trent Williams. He is easily the best player at his position and one of the best players in the NFL period. This week when the Niners and Steelers square off, Pittsburgh EDGE Alex Highsmith is going to have his work cut out for him trying to get to Brock Purdy with Williams in his way.

Steelers vs Niners: Who wins in Week 1?

Cast your vote and tell us who wins this week.

The Pittsburgh Steelers square off against the San Francisco 49ers in Week One of the NFL regular season. The Steelers finally get themselves a home game to start the year and it’s against one of the best teams in the NFC.

Training camp and the preseason have been busy for Pittsburgh on many levels. General Manager Omar Khan took over the team after the draft in 2022 and was quiet but his first full offseason in charge has been anything but.

Pittsburgh has rebuilt this roster in terms of weaknesses among the starters as well as bolstering the depth across the board. There isn’t a single positional unit on the Steelers you cannot say is better now than last season.

Meanwhile, the 49ers get their starting quarterback Brock Purdy back and hope to get back to the NFC title game. But San Francisco might be minus its two best players in EDGE Nick Bosa and tight end George Kittle. Will this be enough to let Pittsburgh pull off the home upset?

Steelers vs Niners: 4 reasons Pittsburgh will win on Sunday

The comeback of T.J. Watt and the improvement of Kenny Pickett is why the Steelers beat the Niners this weekend.

After a huge offseason filled with roster moves, it is finally game week. The Pittsburgh Steelers have assembled an impressive roster loaded with depth and are hoping to get off to a fast start after the San Francisco 49ers at Acrisure Stadium.

Last season the Niners were 13-4 and had the second-best record in the NFC. Pittsburgh is facing a steep challenge right out of the gate. But here are the four reasons the Steelers will win on Sunday.

Steelers vs Niners: 4 early causes for concern this week

Will the 49ers have Nick Bosa and is the Matt Canada offense for real?

The Pittsburgh Steelers are wasting no time in 2023 with a tough matchup. Week One finds the Steelers welcoming the San Francisco 49ers to Acrisure Stadium. Many pundits think the Niners are a legitimate Super Bowl contender out of the NFC so there’s nothing like hitting the ground running.

The season isn’t won or lost in the first week but in the AFC North, you cannot afford to slip up in non-conference games. Here are the four early worries we have for this game.

Steelers CB James Pierre’s role on defense still up in the air

Steelers DC Teryl Austin isn’t sure what the team will do with James Pierre.

One of the strongest performances on defense Friday night for the Pittsburgh Steelers was cornerback James Pierre. Pierre played 51 snaps which was the most of any Steelers defender and led the team with 10 total tackles.

Steelers defensive coordinator Teryl Austin offered up his evaluation of Pierre’s performance and in the usual Steelers style, offered very little in terms of positive affirmations and instead keeps things all business.

“He plays hard. But I thought he left some plays out there that he could’ve made,” defensive coordinator Teryl Austin said. “I think he’s still in a position where he brings good value. But is he the 4th CB or the 5th CB and special teams guy? We don’t know.”

Pierre must take advantage of every defensive snap he can get as he remains caught up in a position battle. The team has Patrick Peterson, Joey Porter Jr., Levi Wallace and Chandon Sullivan as the team’s 3 primary corners and top reserve. This leaves two spots on the depth chart and Pierre isn’t alone fight for the spot.
