Rumor: Nuggets’ potential target with newly-acquired 30th pick emerges

After acquiring the 30th pick in the NBA draft, a potential target for the Nuggets has reportedly emerged.

After acquiring the 30th pick in the NBA draft from the Oklahoma City Thunder, a potential target for the Denver Nuggets has reportedly emerged on June 23.

The Nuggets agreed to send forward JaMychal Green and a protected 2027 first-round pick to the Thunder as part of the trade. Green, who could have become a free agent this summer, is expected to opt into his $8.2 million player option.

Denver will also pick up two future second-round picks in the deal.

With a second first-rounder now available, in addition to their own 21st pick, the Nuggets are reportedly considering taking a point guard at 30, according to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report.

With Denver having acquired the No. 30 pick, league sources expect the Nuggets will target a point guard such as Gonzaga ball-handler Andrew Nembhard. Denver has engaged various teams in trade conversations regarding Monte Morris, the sturdy reserve point guard who filled in as its starter with Jamal Murray sidelined for the season.

The Nuggets have also been rumored into wanting to trade up and could now use their two picks to do so. However, if new president Calvin Booth and the team opt to standpat, the group has apparently zeroed in on a potential target to consider.

Denver has hosted several first-round prospects for workouts, including Santa Clara guard Jalen Williams, Ohio State forward E.J. Liddell and Michigan forward Caleb Houstan among others, with more likely to come before next week.

With two first-round picks now, the Nuggets could be a team to watch in the coming days. They figure to be very active in trade discussions as it will be interesting to see what they ultimately do.

Rumor: Pacers interested in acquiring additional first-round pick

With the sixth pick in tow, the Pacers are reportedly interesting in acquiring an additional first-round pick.

With the sixth pick in tow, the Indiana Pacers are reportedly interesting in acquiring an additional first-round selection ahead of the NBA draft, according to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report.

The Pacers are expected to be active in gauging the trade market for center Myles Turner and guard Malcolm Brogdon. The team is looking to trade its veteran players in order to add young talent, much like it did at the trade deadline by moving Domantas Sabonis to the Sacramento Kings.

Indiana has several assets it can use to acquire an additional pick and is expected to continue those conversations between now and the draft on June 23, according to the report.

The Pacers also have designs on acquiring an additional first-round pick besides their No. 6 selection, sources said. Indiana is exploring options to trade the No. 31 pick, plus the Cavaliers’ 2023 first-round pick, which was part of the Pacers’ return for Caris LeVert.

It is not known what pick the Pacers would be interested in adding, but the team has hosted pre-draft workouts with several prospects projected to be taken later in the first round. Among them: Johnny Davis, Dalen Terry, Max Christie and Christian Braun among others.

The Pacers acquired Tyrese Haliburton in the trade involving Sabonis and would like to add similarly young players to build around him. They also have Chris Duarte, who was named to the NBA All-Rookie second team, and promising big man Isaiah Jackson as core players.

Indiana will certainly be a team to watch in the days to come that could be very active in trade discussions. The front office wants to capitalize on its assets and could make big changes, as a result.

Italian forward Gabriele Procida to remain in NBA draft

Procida, a 6-foot-7 forward from Fortitudo Bologna, will reportedly remain in the NBA draft.

Gabriele Procida, a 6-foot-7 forward from Fortitudo Bologna in Italy, will reportedly remain in the 2022 NBA draft, according to Jonathan Givony of ESPN.

Procida, who was born in Italy, averaged 6.9 points and three rebounds on 38.3% shooting from 3-point range in 26 games this season. He produced perhaps his best game of the year on Dec. 13, recording a season-high 19 points and seven rebounds.

The 6-foot-7 forward was among those prospects that participated in the draft combine last month in Chicago, Illinois. He measured in with a 6-foot-8 wingspan and recorded a 3.02-second three-quarter sprint, which was tied for the fastest time.

Procida had until 5 p.m. EDT on Monday to withdraw from the draft.

He debuted with the Italian senior team at the 2022 EuroBasket qualifier and had 10 points and three rebounds in a loss to North Macedonia. He also played in the 2019 FIBA U18 European Championship, averaging 13.1 points and 4.6 rebounds.

Procida is considered a potential second-round pick this year. He previously tested the pre-draft process last year but elected to return to Italy for one more season. He has great athleticism and is highly touted as a 3-and-D prospect.

The NBA draft will take place on June 23.

International prospect Nikola Jovic to remain in NBA draft

The 19-year-old had until 5 p.m. EDT on Monday to withdraw from the NBA draft.

Projected first-round pick Nikola Jovic will reportedly remain in the 2022 NBA draft after a strong season in the Adriatic League, according to Jonathan Givony of ESPN

Jovic, who was born in Serbia, was named the ABA League Top Prospect after averaging 12 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 29 games with KK Mega Basket last season. He shot 41.4% from the field, including 31.5% from 3-point range.

The 6-foot-11 debuted with Mega Basket’s senior team last year and previously played with Serbia in the 2021 FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup. He was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 18.1 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists in seven games.

Jovic had until 5 p.m. EDT on Monday to withdraw from the draft.

Jovic is widely projected to be a mid-to-late first-round pick. He can space the floor and has also shown promise as a ballhandler and rebounder. He has been on the NBA radar for some time and even received votes as the best international player by GMs.

The 19-year-old has worked out with several teams ahead of the draft, including the Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets and Minnesota Timberwolves among others. Jovic enters the draft with as much experience as any prospect and should be a high pick, as a result.

The NBA draft will take place on June 23.

Canadian Leonard Miller to withdraw from draft, sign with Ignite

Miller becomes the second prospect to play with the Ignite next season, joining Scoot Henderson.

Leonard Miller, a 6-foot-11 forward from Canada, on Monday told Jonathan Givony of ESPN that he will withdraw from the 2022 NBA draft and sign with the NBA G League Ignite.

Miller, who will turn 19 in November, previously announced last month that he would forgo his collegiate eligibility and either remain in the draft or sign with the Ignite next season. He had received college interest from Arizona and Kentucky, among other programs.

The 6-foot-10 forward was ruled eligible for the draft after completing a postgraduate year at Fort Erie International Academy. He participated in the combine last month in Chicago, Illinois, averaging 7.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in two scrimmage games.

[mm-video type=video id=01g4wkxwa3svd05m3q3a playlist_id=01f09kz5ecxq9bp57b player_id=01f1jxkahtwnvzepyp image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01g4wkxwa3svd05m3q3a/01g4wkxwa3svd05m3q3a-caae57cddc60ccddaa2ef1b2ada65eaa.jpg]

Miller projects to have the skills needed to eventually make the transition to the NBA. He has an all-around offensive game and boasts a 7-foot-2 wingspan that can help protect the paint on defense. With a year in the G League, Miller could transform into a first-round pick.

He will join Scoot Henderson on the Ignite next season. They are the only known players signed to the roster at this time with the likes of Dyson Daniels, Michael Foster Jr. and Jaden Hardy leaving the program for the draft this year.

The stated goal of the Ignite is to provide development opportunities for those prospects looking to play professionally. The team offers the players a platform to showcase their skills in front of scouts and executives against G League competition.

Miller had until 5 p.m. EDT on Monday to withdraw from the draft.

On Monday, it was reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN that the Denver Nuggets have acquired the 30th pick in the 2022 NBA draft from the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The trade marks one of the first major moves for new Nuggets president Calvin Booth. Denver now has pick Nos. 21 and 30 in the draft as the team looks to improve its roster. They have been rumored into wanting to trade up and could now use their two picks to do so.

For the Thunder, they entered the draft with four picks in the top 34, including three in the first round. The team likely did not want to add four first-year players and opted to cash in on one of those assets to bring in a veteran in Green.

Report: Kings held draft workout with Baylor’s Jeremy Sochan

Sacramento had the Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year in for a workout on Sunday.

Baylor freshman Jeremy Sochan on Sunday reportedly participated in a pre-draft workout with the Sacramento Kings, according to Jason Anderson of the Sacramento Bee.

Sochan, who recently turned 19 last month, was named the Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year after posting 9.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.3 steals in 30 games. He produced perhaps his best game of the season on Feb. 26 with 17 points and five rebounds in a win over No. 5 Kansas.

The 6-foot-9 forward emerged as an excellent defender with Baylor and affected games in a variety of ways. He has an evolving offensive game but projects to be able to develop into a player that can run the show and create for himself at the next level.

[mm-video type=video id=01g4n0hnyr6r97xvj9rj playlist_id=01f09kz5ecxq9bp57b player_id=01f1jxkahtwnvzepyp image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01g4n0hnyr6r97xvj9rj/01g4n0hnyr6r97xvj9rj-f65cbca9fc8199ea71f46feabd57c718.jpg]

The Kings enter the draft with the fourth pick but are rumored into wanting to trade down or out of the first round altogether. They would like to acquire players to help them win now and could find that player in the draft or use the fourth pick to get them.

Sochan is widely projected to be selected in the 7-14 range, which could fall into the Kings’ window if they opt to trade out of the fourth spot. Sacramento likely is doing its due diligence on Sochan to prepare for any scenario that may present itself on June 23.

While it remains to be seen which direction the Kings will go, it is becoming apparent the first shake-up on draft night could very well emanate from Sacramento.

5 possible sleeper candidates to watch for in 2022 NBA draft

Rookie Wire took a look at five possible sleeper candidates in the upcoming NBA draft.

Last year, Herb Jones shocked the NBA as a second-round pick who entered the league and had an immediate impact. After his selection at 35th overall by New Orleans, Jones went on to average 9.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.7 steals at 29.9 minutes per game.

Jones, who was eventually named to the NBA All-Rookie second team, offered extremely valuable defensive basketball and complimentary offense to a Pelicans squad that overperformed their preseason expectations and made it to the playoffs.

It’s safe to say that, entering the 2022 NBA draft, every team would like to find their own version of Jones: A rookie with the ability to prosper and contribute meaningful minutes immediately if given the chance.

Here are five possible options that could meet that criterion in 2022.

Pacers reveal prospects for next individual draft workouts

The Pacers will host two projected lottery picks this week for individual workouts.

Duke freshman AJ Griffin and Wisconsin sophomore Johnny Davis will each work out individually with the Indiana Pacers this week, the team announced.

Griffin, who will visit the Pacers on Monday, averaged 10.4 points, 3.9 rebounds and one assist on 44.7% shooting from 3-point range last season. He was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team and ranked fifth in program history in 3-point percentage.

Meanwhile, Davis will work out on Tuesday with Indiana, which will be his fifth known meeting with a team ahead of the draft. He was a consensus first-team All-American after averaging 19.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.2 steals in 31 games last season.

[mm-video type=video id=01g54v70rqcbg74tr11v playlist_id=01f09kz5ecxq9bp57b player_id=01f1jxkahtwnvzepyp image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01g54v70rqcbg74tr11v/01g54v70rqcbg74tr11v-f85d341354d70230d5ec5aeff1af40f6.jpg]

The Pacers were awarded the sixth overall pick in the draft, one position lower than their pre-lottery odds. They have hosted several first-round prospects for workouts, including Dyson Daniels and Bennedict Mathurin among others.

Griffin and Davis each project to be available when Indiana is on the clock. They are considered to be lottery picks and will have the opportunity to showcase their abilities this week in front of team executives and coaches.

The NBA draft will take place on June 23.
