Dec. 4 ACC Championship (in Charlotte)

Games vs. The Coastal: Boston College, at Clemson,

Missed Teams From The Atlantic: Florida State, Louisville, NC State, Syracuse, Wake Forest

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Football Schedule Analysis: It’s an easy start, and the Yellow Jackets need Northern Illinois and Kennesaw State to warm up. On the good side, four of the first five games are at home. On the other side, two of those home games against North Carolina and Pitt, and the road game in between them all is at Clemson.

And then comes the run of three road games in four, and that’s finished off by the date at Miami. Throw in the date at Notre Dame and the regular season finale against Georgia, and … uh oh.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Football Schedule Best Case Scenario: 7-5. There’s an off-chance that Georgia Tech gets everything to work and pulls of big home wins over North Carolina and Pitt early on. It doesn’t get thumped in the middle of the season, gets by Boston College, and it does just enough to come up with a winning campaign.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Football Schedule Worst Case Scenario: 3-9. There are way too many almost sure-thing losses with the road games at Clemson, Notre Dame and Miami along with the home dates with North Carolina, Virginia Tech and Georgia. The Yellow Jackets could win one of those, maybe even two, but in the worst possible scenario, there are misses against everyone else, too.

Games vs. The Coastal: Miami, at North Carolina

Missed Teams From The Coastal: Duke, Georgia Tech, Miami, Pitt, Virginia, Virginia Tech

Florida State Seminoles Football Schedule Analysis: FSU has a slew of issues with its schedule. It starts at home against Notre Dame, it finishes with a trip to Florida, and there are a whole lot of nasty things going on in between with a trip to North Carolina and a date against Miami from the Coastal. If that wasn’t rough enough, the Clemson game is on the road.

On the plus side, there’s a good midseason run of five home games in seven dates – around those road trips to UNC and Clemson – before closing out with two games away from Tallahassee. The team from Florida playing in Boston on November 20th won’t be a whole lot of fun.

Florida State Seminoles Football Schedule Best Case Scenario: 8-4. Assume losses on the road at Clemson and Florida, but for this to be a strong season there has to be at least a split against Notre Dame and North Carolina. There will be a loss somewhere else on in the mix – like at Wake Forest or at Boston College – but enough positive moments to get to eight wins.

Florida State Seminoles Football Schedule Worst Case Scenario: 4-8. Florida State will beat UMass and Jacksonville State. Start with those two wins, and then if everything goes wrong, it’s going to be a huge struggle from there with tough loss after tough loss. The home game against Syracuse might be the only other game the team is favored.

Games vs. The Coastal: at Duke, Virginia

Missed Teams From The Coastal: Duke, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina, Pitt, Virginia Tech

Louisville Cardinals Football Schedule Analysis: How quickly can the Cardinals bounce back from the rough 2020 season? It’s not an easy start with Ole Miss to kick things off and UCF 11 days later. The start to the ACC season isn’t awful, but they first two games – FSU and Wake Forest – are on the road.

On the plus side, four of the next five games are at home with a week off mixed in. Five of the last seven are in Louisville – including Clemson – and the rivalry date with Kentucky is a home date, too.

Louisville Cardinals Football Schedule Best Case Scenario: 9-3. If the Cardinals are good enough to beat Ole Miss and UCF early on, they should be strong enough to get through the manageable ACC schedule. Assume a loss to Clemson and in one of the road games – maybe against Wake Forest and/or NC State – but getting to nine wins is a real goal.

Louisville Cardinals Football Schedule Worst Case Scenario: 5-7. The Cardinals lose to both Ole Miss and UCF and struggle on the road out of the gate against FSU and Wake Forest on the road. The drop the date with Clemson, lose to NC State, and worst of all, can’t get past Kentucky in the regular season finale.

Dec. 4 ACC Championship (in Charlotte)

Games vs. The Atlantic: at Florida State, NC State

Missed Teams From The Atlantic: Boston College, Clemson, Louisville, Syracuse, Wake Forest

Miami Hurricanes Football Schedule Analysis: Starting your season off with Alabama is never a positive, and the Hurricanes aren’t taking it easy with Appalachian State and Michigan State – fine, so it’s not that bad, especially compared to Alabama – before getting a week off again Central Connecticut. However, considering the date against the Tide is in Atlanta, there isn’t a true road game until mid-October.

However, the Canes have to go to North Carolina and Pitt, and the date with Florida State is on the road. There aren’t two home games in a row among the last seven.

Miami Hurricanes Football Schedule Best Case Scenario: 10-2. The Canes will almost certainly drop the opener to the Tide, and assume a misfire at North Carolina or maybe against Virginia Tech or NC State, but that’s about it. There isn’t a game that’s not winnable after Week 1, and if Miami is sharp, it can roll through the slate. Or …

Miami Hurricanes Football Schedule Worst Case Scenario: 7-5. Start with the loss to Bama, and it could get worse with Michigan State rising up in Hard Rock for a win. Throw in a loss at North Carolina, add a few defeats against maybe Virginia Tech or at Pitt, and on the wrong day there could be a loss at Florida State on the way to a wildly disappointing run.

Dec. 4 ACC Championship (in Charlotte)

Games vs. The Atlantic: Florida State, at NC State

Missed Teams From The Atlantic: Boston College, Clemson, Louisville, Syracuse, Wake Forest

North Carolina Tar Heels Football Schedule Analysis: It’s not that bad if the Tar Heels can get by Virginia Tech in the opener. Win that, and with five of the next six games at home, and the lone road date at Georgia Tech, there’s a shot at a huge start.

There’s a game against Notre Dame on the road to deal with, and Wake Forest is an interesting non-conference game, but there’s no Clemson to deal with and the team only leaves the great state of North Carolina three times over the final 11 games.

North Carolina Tar Heels Football Schedule Best Case Scenario: 11-1. It would take the Tar Heels not brain-cramping like they did against Florida State and Virginia last year, but budget in a loss at Notre Dame and everything else is winnable. 10-2 is a more realistic best case scenario, but the team should be strong enough and the schedule is manageable enough to shoot for more.

North Carolina Tar Heels Football Schedule Worst Case Scenario: 7-5. Anything worse than an seven-win season would be a disaster with this slate. The Tar Heels lose at Virginia Tech, drop the date at Notre Dame, and can’t get by Miami at home and/or Pitt and/or NC State on the road – that’s all possible.

Dec. 4 ACC Championship (in Charlotte)

Games vs. The Coastal: at Miami, North Carolina

Missed Teams From The Coastal: Duke, Georgia Tech, Pitt, Virginia, Virginia Tech

NC State Wolfpack Football Schedule Analysis: Four of the first five games are at home, but that comes at a cost. One of the games is against Clemson, the road game in the mix is at Mississippi State, and then comes the problem with four of the following five games on the road.

The Pack get the groove back late with Syracuse and North Carolina at home, and that run of road games isn’t all that bad. They should be strong enough to at least with two of them, if not three, and they need to take care of Louisville at home in the eyes of the road game storm.

NC State Wolfpack Football Schedule Best Case Scenario: 9-3. Assume a loss at home to Clemson, let’s throw in a loss at Miami, and factor in one other defeat against – most likely – North Carolina. Every other game is winnable including the dates at Florida State and Wake Forest. It might take a win against Miami or UNC to get to nine, but it’s possible.

NC State Wolfpack Football Schedule Worst Case Scenario: 5-7. Even if NC State falls off the map, it should be strong enough to get by USF, Furman and Louisiana Tech. However, every other game on the slate will require effort, and there’s certainly a chance that things aren’t working right and it losses at least six of the ACC games and the date against Mississippi State.

Dec. 4 ACC Championship (in Charlotte)

Games vs. The Atlantic: Clemson, at Syracuse

Missed Teams From The Atlantic: Boston College, Florida State, Louisville, NC State, Wake Forest

Pitt Panthers Football Schedule Analysis: The good: most of the key games are at home with North Carolina coming in on a Thursday night, Miami in on Halloween weekend, and with Virginia and Clemson in Heinz, too. There’s a good run of four home games in five wrapped around a winnable game at Duke, and with a trip to Syracuse to close.

The bad: Clemson. The Panthers have to play that team from the Atlantic. Dealing with Virginia Tech on the road isn’t all that fun, either, and going to Tennessee will be a key early test.

Pitt Panthers Football Schedule Best Case Scenario: 9-3. It’s not a bad schedule if the Panthers can beat Tennessee. Do that, and it’s a 4-0 start before going to Georgia Tech for a winnable game. Win at Duke and Syracuse, come up with a few good home victories, and it’ll be a great season.

Pitt Panthers Football Schedule Worst Case Scenario: 5-7. It would take a total flop to not have a winning season, but it’s possible. Lose at Tennessee, don’t get at least two of the road wins against Georgia Tech, Duke and Syracuse, and there’s a possible problem. Even at home beating Miami, North Carolina and/or Virginia – much less Clemson – isn’t a given.

Games vs. The Coastal: Pitt, at Virginia Tech

Missed Teams From The Coastal: Duke, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina, Virginia

Syracuse Orange Football Schedule Analysis: Can the Orange beat Rutgers? Can they possibly beat Liberty this time around after losing last year at home – and badly? Those are two the Orange have to take down as part of an easy September – being 4-0 is a must. After starting out at Ohio, five of the next six games are at home.

The Clemson game is a Friday night hone date, but three of the following four games are on the road. Missing Miami and North Carolina from the Coastal is huge, but facing Virginia Tech in Blacksburg hurts.

Syracuse Orange Football Schedule Best Case Scenario: 8-4. The Orange take care of the home games and get off to a big start before dealing with Clemson. There are problems in the second half of the season, but they pull off one of the key road wins and close out with a victory over Pitt.

Syracuse Orange Football Schedule Worst Case Scenario: 4-8. It’s a disaster from the start. Rutgers rolls to a win, and Liberty pulls off a second straight win in the dome. Throw in a road loss to Florida State, and it’s a grind to get anywhere near four wins, even with a good-effort upset – like at NC State or Louisville – somewhere along the way.

Dec. 4 ACC Championship (in Charlotte)

Games vs. The Atlantic: at Louisville, Wake Forest

Missed Teams From The Atlantic: Boston College, Clemson, Florida State, NC State, Syracuse

Virginia Cavaliers Football Schedule Analysis: There’s a warm up against William & Mary, and then it’s Game On with a fun home game against Illinois followed up by a run of three ACC road games in the first four. That includes a trip to North Carolina along with a weeknight game against Miami. However, there’s a payoff in the second half of the year with four home games in the final six.

There aren’t any real breaks, though. Going to BYU isn’t any sort of a break in late October, and having to play Notre Dame is a bear. At least that’s at home along with the rivalry date with Virginia Tech.

Virginia Cavaliers Football Schedule Best Case Scenario: 9-3. It’s a bear of a schedule, but the Cavaliers take care of home games against Illinois and Wake Forest to go along with huge performances against Notre Dame and Virginia Tech. There’s a loss on the road to North Carolina here, and one to Miami there, and there’s likely a defeat to either the Irish or Hokies, but the team fights on through.

Virginia Cavaliers Football Schedule Worst Case Scenario: 4-8. The schedule is a bear, and nothing goes quite right. A loss to Illinois is just the start, and it just gets uglier from there with problems on the road again North Carolina and Miami, and with a loss at Louisville putting the pressure on in the second half. The finishing kick is a disaster with losses in all of the final four games.

Dec. 4 ACC Championship (in Charlotte)

Games vs. The Atlantic: Boston College, Syracuse

Missed Teams From The Atlantic: Clemson, Florida State, Louisville, NC State, Wake Forest

Virginia Tech Hokies Football Schedule Analysis: Starting out against North Carolina at home will set the tone for the rest of the season. With that, a trip to West Virginia, and with Notre Dame up early, it’s a tough first half of the season. However, six of the first seven games are in Blacksburg.

And then comes the second half of the year with four of the last five games on the road including Miami and the rivalry game against Virginia. However, there’s no Clemson on the slate

Virginia Tech Hokies Football Schedule Best Case Scenario: 10-2. The Hokies are just that good, they get by West Virginia on the road and North Carolina and Notre Dame at home, and it’s a great start to offset a few tough losses – possibly at Miami and with one other hiccup – with a shot at winning the Coastal going into the Virginia game.

Virginia Tech Hokies Football Schedule Worst Case Scenario: 6-6. The season starts with a thud against North Carolina, there’s a loss at West Virginia, and dropping the home games against Notre Dame and Pitt are disastrous. The road games in the second half of the year don’t help with losses in three of those four away from home.
