Cardinals free agent outlook: CB Dre Kirkpatrick

The 31-year-old cornerback seems unlikely to come back.

One of the Arizona Cardinals’ many free agents this offseason is cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick. Will he be back in 2021?

Kirkpatrick signed with the team in training camp after Robert Alford tore his pec and was lost for the season. Playing in his ninth season after eight with the Cincinnati Bengals, he played in 14 games, starting 11. He had 56 tackles, three interceptions and seven pass breakups. His three picks were tied for the team lead.

While he wasn’t outstanding, he was mostly effective. When targeted, he allowed 62 receptions for 660 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He allowed a passer rating of 80.1 when targeted.

He was part of the reason the Cardinals went from having a historically bad pass defense to a top-10 unit.

He also had some untimely penalties and missed 11 tackles.

He played last season on a veteran minimum deal. He is looking for more this season.

The Cardinals could do worse than Kirkpatrick but they can also do better.

That said, he will certainly test the market. If he doesn’t find a better offer, he could be back later this offseason.
