Cam Newton responds to Shannon Sharpe calling him arrogant

Shannon Sharpe lambasted Cam Newton for his “suffocating arrogance” after he provided a list of quarterbacks he’d be willing to back up. So, the Panthers great responded.

Carolina Panthers great Cam Newton is drawing ol’ Unc’s ire once again.

On Thursday’s episode of Skip and Shannon: Undisputed, Hall of Fame tight end and current talking head Shannon Sharpe lambasted the free agent passer for his recent YouTube video—where he named 11 quarterbacks he’d be willing to back up for the 2023 season. Sharpe, who seemingly perceived the list as one of demands, stated the following:

“The problem I have with Cam is that his arrogance is suffocating,” he said to co-host Skip Bayless. “This man was out of the entire NFL last year. Then he comes in with a wishlist—these are the players I’m willing to back up. Skip, I don’t have a job. I’m only willing to work with Apple, Google, Microsoft, J.P. Morgan, Amazon, Salesforce, American Express, Wells Fargo, Walmart and Target.

“I don’t have a job!” he then exclaimed. “I don’t get to call the shots!”

Newton, who wasn’t really demanding much of anything, would respond later in the day on Twitter:

The 33-year-old hasn’t played an NFL down since 2021, when the Panthers signed him just days prior to their Week 10 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. After sitting out the entirety of the 2022 campaign, the former Most Valuable Player hit the field for a throwing session during Auburn University’s pro day back on March 21—giving teams a small look at what he’s got left in the tank.

Apparently, Sharpe doesn’t believe there’s much in there—as he also knocked Newton for being a “random” ahead of that pro day appearance.

So it might be safe to say that Shannon thinks there are 32 guys better than Cam, no?
