ANN ARBOR, Mich. — When you win your games and the Big Ten Championship, you’ve earned a right to talk.
Such is the case for Michigan football quarterback Cade McNamara, who had drawn the ire of the Ohio State fan base the week before The Game when he made an innocuous comment about ‘not being concerned’ about the Buckeye defense inasmuch as he was looking for ways to exploit it. It turns out, he had something of a point, even if he was more just expressing confidence in the Wolverines’ offensive attack.
Now with a Big Ten championship trophy residing in Schembechler Hall, McNamara was asked what about the season has surprised him thus far, with the maize and blue being 12-1 after going 2-4 the year before. It turns out, he didn’t expect OSU to roll over the way it did on Nov. 27.
“Honestly, maybe I was expecting the Ohio State game to be a little closer,” McNamara said. “Other than that, I think we’ve handled business well.”

Now, to be clear, that wasn’t exactly a dig. But he made sure to include how lopsided the game really was, even with the final score being a two-possession game at 42-27.
He gives credit to the fact that OSU is a solid team, but also, like his offensive coordinator in Josh Gattis, seems to question the Buckeyes’ toughness.
“We just know that they’re a really good team,” McNamara said. “We had a chance to run the ball on them, but I didn’t think we would honestly physically dominate them at that level.”
Regardless, at the moment, Michigan has bragging rights, and it’s well within McNamara’s purview to exercise them.
