But are there too many bodies?

McDermott loves competition, so this will be one group to follow closely in training camp. At the top of the depth chart, the Bills have Oliver and likely Lotulelei. He hasn’t had the sexiest job during his time with the Bills, but the team loves Lotulelei. He eats up blockers and does the dirty work so others around him can get the sacks and tackles.

Behind those two… well, we don’t envy McDermott and general manager Brandon Beane while they pick their roster. As mentioned Harrison Phillips was off to a good start last season before injury struck. He’s not far off from being the “next Kyle Williams,” remember?

Speaking of good 2019 seasons, there’s Vernon Butler. The former Panthers’ first-round pick comes to the Bills as things finally came together for him in his last season in Carolina.

Then there’s Jefferson. Is he playing more on the inside or outside of the D-line? That versatility could very well help him lockup a roster spot. And don’t sleep on Vincent Taylor. Pro Football Focus likes him, calling him a player that “could surprise” in 2020.

Pretty much all these guys have talent. Much more than we’re used to for one position group. Keep an eye out for potential trades coming from this unit when training camp is all said and done as well.

Good luck with deciding all that, McBeane.
