What roles do the versatile guys play?

The Bills love their versatility. No place more than the defensive line. Lorenzo Alexander proved that for the better part of the past three seasons. Listed as a linebacker, he’d still put his hand in the dirt on the edge of the D-line. But not only the edge, on the inside, too.

With Alexander gone, the Bills still do have a few pieces that have similar abilities and because of that, we’re really not even sure what exact roles these guys are going to play.

The top of that list is Quinton Jefferson. Coming from the Seahawks, he didn’t play off the ball like like Alexander. But some peg the 3-tech spot his best role as a pass rusher on the inside. But he did play on the edge in Seattle, so which will he play more? Then there’s rookie AJ Epenesa. Likely more of an edge rusher, Epenesa, like Alexander and Jefferson, has some pass rushing prowess from both of those spots, too.

And again, Harrison Phillips is returning from an ACL injury. He’s a bit different, but still versatile. Could he be a 1-tech eating up blockers like Lotulelei? Could he be a 3-tech guy as well?

This versatility gives the Bills plenty of options when filling out their roster.
