Can Josh Norman return to being a serviceable player?
Norman’s final weeks in Washington were largely forgettable. Norman was benched toward the end of last season due to inefficiency. The marriage between himself and Washington had ended bitterly, he was unable to match the production of the contract he signed in 2016.
Now, Norman comes back to familiar territory with Buffalo. McDermott has had success bringing players who struggled with previous franchises to a higher level. It’s an ideal situation for Norman. With a condensed offseason, he’ll jump right into the team’s plans for starting at cornerback, as he won’t have much of a learning curve since he played under McDermott during his tenure with the Carolina Panthers.
His contract with Buffalo reveals that Norman should have the inside track on the starting cornerback job, even though the team returns Wallace, who started every game last year. It will be a good competition, and if Norman can trend toward the player that he was in Carolina, it will be a steal for Buffalo. If not, it’ll be a widely criticized move to the tune of at least six million dollars.
