The former Sooners star and current Sacramento Kings guard lit up NBA All-Star Saturday night on his way to winning the NBA 3-Point Contest.

Buddy Hield got off to a slow start in round one before nailing his final six shots to advance to the final round with a score of 27 points. Up against Davis Bertans and Devin Booker in the final round, Hield needed to score 27 again to win the competition.

Heading into the final rack of the final round, the former Oklahoma star needed eight points to defeat Booker. Hield hit his first three, missed his fourth, then swished his fifth to win the NBA 3-Point Contest.

Oklahoma counterpart Trae Young was also a participant, but failed to make it out of the first round.

The Bahamas native becomes the first Oklahoma alumni to win the NBA 3-Point Contest. Hield has made the third-most 3-pointers in the NBA this season and is shooting 38.5 percent from three. He led the Sooners to the Final Four during the 2016 NCAA Tournament while taking home the Naismith Trophy presented to the men’s college basketball player who achieves great success on the court.

Hield will not be competing in the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday night.
