The talk of the NFL combine to this point has been the size and weight of Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young and if he will be durable enough to hold up in the league. While size does matter, Young has every single intangible you look for in a franchise quarterback and can make any throw on the field.
ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky has always been a huge fan of Young and he doubled down this week at the combine saying, “This young man has no pulse. No play is dead. The size can be a concern but his play is so hard to replicate… I said I wasn’t going to compare him to the guy who’s playing in Kansas City (Patrick Mahomes), and I’m not going to, but my goodness he looks like him.”
Young has reportedly been outstanding in all of his meetings with the NFL franchises and is a known savant of the game. During his time in Tuscaloosa, Young was known to show up to Monday practices with his only concepts and thoughts of the Tide’s next opponents which stood out to even Coach Saban.
I do think it is worth noting that Young has dominated the SEC for two years which is the most pro ready league in college football by far. We talk an awful lot about how great the 2021 Georgia team was, but Young had no issues throwing for over 400 yards and 3 touchdowns on them. Young is a lot more pro ready than people realize from his blitz recognitions to big play conversions this young man can do it all.
Whoever gets Young will have a franchise quarterback for the next 15 years, no doubt in my mind.
