Alabama quarterback Bryce Young has been spectacular in 2022, despite worse conditions when compared to the stellar 2021 roster. Last season, Young was the Heisman winner and was also the recipient of the Maxwell Award, Davey O’Brien Award and Maxwell Award.
Though he is not likely going to receive identical recognition, his high-level of play will pay off in the form of an NFL contract.
Luke Easterling of the Draft Wire shared his latest two-round 2023 mock draft and it kicks off with the Houston Texans selecting Young with the No. 1 overall pick.
“Unless Davis Mills takes a massive leap forward in his development over the second half of the season, the Texans need to spend this pick on a franchise quarterback,” writes Easterling. “Regardless of any concerns about his size, Young is the best, most complete prospect at the position in this year’s class.”
The debate has been between Young and Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud for the QB1 spot in the 2023 draft.
The biggest knock on Young is his size. Other than that, he has been hailed as a calm-minded, excellent decision-maker that appears to be pro-ready. Stroud has a couple of inches on Young but shares a lot of the same qualities.
Many pundits argue the difference between the two comes down to the eye test, what they do in similar high-pressure situations and the offensive weapons they have on their respective teams.
Easterling’s mock draft has Stroud being selected just two picks later at No. 3 overall to the Carolina Panthers.
Roll Tide Wire will continue to cover Alabama football and the Crimson Tide stars with aspirations to continue playing at the highest level.
