Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy suffered a shoulder injury in the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans after attempting to haul in a deep pass from quarterback Russell Wilson.

The team described it as a shoulder injury when Jeudy left the contest, but coach Nathaniel Hackett called it a rib injury after the game.

Before leaving the game, Jeudy totaled one catch for 11 yards on three targets. The team announced at halftime that Jeudy would not return in the second half.

With Jeudy on the sideline and KJ Hamler (knee/hip) and rookie Jalen Virgil inactive, Denver’s remaining wide receivers against Houston were Courtland Sutton, Montrell Washington, Kendall Hinton and Tyrie Cleveland.

Sutton stepped up with Jeudy injured, leading the team with seven receptions for 122 yards. Sutton was easily Wilson’s favorite option, drawing 11 targets against Houston. The next-closest player on offense was running back Javonte Williams, who was targeted four times in Week 2.

The Broncos were leading the Texans 3-0 when Jeudy left in the first quarter and Denver went on to defeat Houston 16-9, earning their first win of the season.
