On Thursday night, the New York Giants selected Xavier McKinney at No. 36 overall.
He also was the 5th Alabama player taken off the board.
McKinney finished the 2019 season with 95 tackles, 3 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 3 interceptions (one of which was returned 81 yards for a TD) 5 pass breakups and 5 QB hurries.
In his career at Alabama, he had 177 tackles, 6 sacks, 6 forced fumbles, 5 interceptions, 15 pass deflections, and 2 touchdowns.
McKinney will be bringing grit, talent, and leadership to New York to join the Super Bowl champs.
He was so much fun to watch at Alabama, and there’s no doubt that he will be a defensive star in the NFL. McKinney never let anyone undervalue his draft stock, and he continues to be on a mission to prove he’s the best safety in the 2020 NFL Draft class.
McKinney is the 10th safety in Alabama football history to be drafted to the NFL. The first ever drafted safety for the Crimson Tide was Roman Harper, back in 2006.
Xavier McKinney is also just the 3rd safety in Alabama history to be drafted in the first round of any NFL Draft. The most recent safety to be drafted from Alabama in the first round was Minkah Fitzpatrick in 2018.
One thing is for certain: the Giants added a number of Alabama fans on Thursday night when they drafted McKinney.
