Brandon Marshall says time on bench will be a good thing for Zach Wilson

It’s no secret that former No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson will be spending more time on the bench in 2023 as the Jets pursue a veteran quarterback this offseason. The team does want to keep Wilson on the team in the hopes of continuing to develop him, something head coach Robert Saleh previously said the team would commit to doing “through hell or high water“.

That time on the bench could be valuable for Wilson. At least, that’s the opinion of former Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall.

Marshall talked to the media in Arizona as he is doing media work himself there for Super Bowl LVII and talked about the quarterback position for the Jets. That talk included how he still believes in Wilson and that he has a good opportunity in front of him with sitting behind a veteran.

“He’s super talented. He has the moxie,” Marshall said, via the New York Post. “He does have the makeup to be successful in that city. But you’re in the big city, you’re in the big leagues. We need it now. You don’t have time to sit there. Now, you’re going to have 12 months, maybe 24 to earn the trust back of not only the Jets but the other 31 teams and organizations. What are you going to do?”

Wilson has been saying and doing the right things lately and even vowed to make life hell in a competition with any veteran the Jets end up bringing in. Now that he’ll have the opportunity to sit and learn behind a veteran, we’ll see if he takes those lessons to heart and can salvage his career.
