Brandon Beane confident extension ‘will come’ with Bills

Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane discusses his own potential contract extension with the team following Sean McDermott.

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott signed a contract extension with the team on Wednesday. Team co-owners Terry and Kim Pegula made the right decision in not giving their coach the slightest sniff of potentially not staying in Orchard Park.

Although it was dusted off across western New York as if it was an earth-shattering take, it’s a pretty simple one. Things ain’t broke, don’t fix em’ and for NFL teams, that means their coach and GM. These jobs go hand-in-hand, so naturally once McDermott signed his deal, one could easily forecast that general manager Brandon Beane will eventually follow.

According to the GM himself, there’s a huge likelihood that yes… his extension is en route…eventually.

Exactly how fast isn’t something he’s fazed by. Following the McDermott news, Beane dished his thoughts to the Buffalo News and the topic of his status with the Bills was the hot-button topic. In the rare chance that someone wondered if Beane could actually separate from the Bills and McDermott, such a person now has no reason worry.

“My day will come when it’s supposed to come, and that’s kind of my vision on it,” Beane said. “I’m super happy here, but I’m just honestly focused on my job and what I can do to help Sean, help the staff, help us win.”

Coming just shy of saying he’s in contract talks himself, Beane does not, in the slightest, give a hint otherwise. McDermott and Beane’s original deals both have the same distance left on them. The coach just signed his extension through the 2025 season, so a betting man would put his money on Beane’s going the same length.

“Sean and I share one thing and that is the Buffalo Bills (come) first – what is in the best interest of the Buffalo Bills,” Beane added. “It’s not what’s in the best interest of Sean McDermott or Brandon Beane. It’s what’s best for the Bills.”

After the organization was plagued with dysfunction for numerous years prior to the McDermott-Beane partnership, Bills fans are likely now telling Beane to just take their money, sign an extension, get it done.

Well, we all know things are a bit more complicated than that, but it sure sounds like it’s heading in the right direction… perhaps even just I’s to dot and T’s to cross in the coming days or weeks.
