There have been a litany of college football preseason award watch lists come out over the last week or so, and many of them have a Scarlet and Gray hue to them. So too does the Lou Groza Award that goes to the best college placekicker annually.
According to an announcement Wednesday, Ohio State placekicker Blake Haubeil is among the names appearing on the Groza’s preseason watch list for 2020.
The Award has was first handed out in 1992 and is awarded by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission. It is named after Lou Groza (of course) who was on the Ohio State freshman football team before enlisting in the U.S. Army as World War II raged on. He played in just three games on the freshman team but became Hall of Famer in the NFL after playing 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns.

Mike Nugent is the only Ohio State player to win the award. He was a runaway winner after an unbelievable 2004 campaign.
