Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen had five touchdowns to lead his team to a beatdown of the Washington Football Team in Week 3.
Easy decision then for Pro Football Focus, right? Allen has to be the player the football analytics outlet handed the best grade out to in that game. Of course. Signed and sealed.
Actually, wrong.
After the game, PFF released the top-five Bills players from Sunday . Allen clocked in at second, behind only safety Micah Hyde:
Highest-graded #Bills from Week 3 (min. 25 snaps):
1️⃣ Micah Hyde: 84.3
2️⃣ Josh Allen: 83.8
3️⃣ Matt Milano: 83.0
4️⃣ Tre’Davious White: 80.5
5️⃣ Emmanuel Sanders: 76.7 pic.twitter.com/4eE7IEt4Kh— PFF BUF Bills (@PFF_Bills) September 27, 2021
To his credit, Hyde did have a heck of an effort, even if it is surprising to see him ahead of Allen.
Against Washington, Hyde had two passes defended, five tackle, one for loss, and of course, an interception. Combined with fellow safety Jordan Poyer, the Bills’ secondary have put the NFL on notice early this season.
Like Hyde, Poyer also had an interception against the Football Team and Buffalo’s defensive backfield looks to be having a bounce-back year in 2021.
Not only did Poyer have a big game against Washington, check out cornerback Tre’Davious White as PFF’s fourth-best player. He edged out the two-touchdown catcher in Emmanuel Sanders.
