Bills bring in Tanner Gentry, former Josh Allen teammate, for workout

WR Tanner Gentry has workout with Buffalo Bills.

The Buffalo Bills held a workout with free agent Tanner Gentry, who’s a close friend of the team’s quarterback, Josh Allen. The move was listed on the NFL’s transaction list on Wednesday. Gentry was a former teammate of Allen’s at the University of Wyoming and one of his wide receivers there in 2016.

Gentry was an undrafted rookie free agent signee of the Chicago Bears in 2017, the year before the Bills selected Allen with the No. 7 overall pick at the following draft.

Following his rookie training camp, Gentry made the Bears’ practice squad for two-straight seasons in 2017 and 2018. He did briefly see playing time in the NFL in his rookie season, appearing in four games and making three starts. Gentry hauled in three catches for 35 yards combined in those appearances. Gentry has also played special teams. Earlier this year, he played in the XFL as well.

Gentry is the third wide receiver the Bills have been connected to just this past week. Kenny Stills had a free-agent visit with the Bills on Wednesday and Buffalo already added Gary Jennings to their practice squad.
