Bills at Patriots: 5 matchups to watch

The Buffalo Bills are playoff bound and can make a run at the AFC East if they can beat the dreaded New England Patriots.

Tre’Davious White vs. Julian Edelman

Normally, Tre’Davious White will be lined up outside against a team’s number one receiver, but on Saturday he’ll be lined up all over the field when facing Julian Edelman. There is precedent for this as well, when facing New England over the last two seasons White lined up against tight end Rob Gronkowski. This had White lined up outside, and in the slot, showing the range of White’s coverage abilities.

The Patriots haven’t had a go to target since Gronk retired in the off season, and the offense has struggled. Edelman has produced some great stats this season, the receiver has 92 grabs, 1,019 yards, and six touchdowns, but he isn’t a number one target that can be relied upon to make consistent  catches against a teams number one corner. Edelman was listed as questionable in practice with a knee injury, and was limited against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Bills number one corner, Tre’Davious White, is one of the best of the NFL. White has elevated himself to Pro Bowl status this season with his six interceptions, 17 pass break ups, and 50 tackles. White has locked down everyone he’s faced this season, not allowing a touchdown this season.

The Bills defense has proven themselves all season, now we will see if they can prove it one more time against Tom Brady, and the Patriots.
