Big Ten, ACC, and Pac-12 announce alliance

The Big Ten, ACC, and Pac-12 officially announced an alliance between the three leagues in a joint statement on Tuesday.

We finally got some more teeth to what this whole Big Ten, ACC, Pac-12 alliance is all a part of, and frankly, it’s about what we thought with no real bombshells.

The three conferences released a statement today outlining the framework of an agreement between the three conferences of shared values, more scheduling in certain sports between the three, and a unifying front that’s supposed to be seen as a bit of a pushback to less than a month removed from the SEC adding Texas and Oklahoma.

As it relates to football scheduling — which is what this is really about — there’s not much that we’ll see right away. Schedules are made years in advance and the alliance said that it will try to honor current contract obligations.

However, down the road, you’ll no doubt see the three conferences schedule each other on a more frequent basis in football and men’s and women’s basketball. It’ll be much easier and earlier to pull off with hoops than in football.

More than anything, this is an attempt by the Big Ten, ACC, and Pac-12 to help shape the future landscape of college football by working together on issues rather than letting the game go with the new money that the SEC will no doubt generate with the addition of the Longhorns and Sooners.

Anyway, here’s the complete release from the trio of teams looking to lock arm and arm against the SEC.
