Big 12 Football: Where each team ranks in terms of returning production percentages

Texas is No. 3 in the conference in terms of returning production.

While many teams across the college football landscape have lost a significant amount of production due to the new one-time transfer rule, others have had better luck.

ESPN’s Bill Connelly recently ranked all 131 FBS teams by returning production percentages. The formula that he created and used is based on what has the greatest impact on year-to-year improvement and regression.

For example, quarterbacks account for approximately 29%, the percent of returning offensive line snaps is 28%, the percent of returning running back rushing yards is 6%, etc.

On the defensive side, Connelly explains that the percentage of returning production is compiled from both position units and type of stats (tackles, tackles for loss, sacks, passes defended).

Connelly did account for incoming transfers, but in Texas’ case with Quinn Ewers, he did not play at Ohio State therefore it did not damper the loss of Casey Thompson.

TCU and Kansas sit atop the Big 12 conference in terms of returning production, while Iowa State and Oklahoma State are on the other end of the curve.

Here is where each Big 12 team landed in Connelly’s returning production percentages:
