It’s no secret Texas underperformed throughout the 2020 college football season.
The Longhorns suffered back-to-back conference losses early in the season to TCU and Oklahoma. Although it appeared head coach Tom Herman righted the ship to place Texas in Big 12 title contention, the ship once again sank when the Longhorns suffered a devastating loss at home to Iowa State.
High expectations consistently surround the Texas football program. That was no different during a pandemic year where the Longhorns had the fifth-most talented roster in the country.
Unfortunately, Texas couldn’t put it all together.
Bonehead mistakes, poor game management and questionable personnel use each played a role in the outcome of several close contests. How did they fare compared to the rest of the Big 12? USA TODAY Sports recently released the season end grades for each Big 12 program.
To no surprise, Iowa State and Oklahoma are atop the list; they reached the Big 12 championship game. However, Texas received a lower grade than Oklahoma State, TCU and West Virginia.
USA TODAY Sports season end grades
A+ Grade: Iowa State Cyclones
B+ Grade: Oklahoma Sooners
B Grade: Oklahoma State Cowboys, Texas Christian Horned Frogs and West Virginia Mountaineers

Texas will start fresh in 2021 under newly hired head coach Steve Sarkisian. The brilliant offensive minded coach should have this program competing for championships in the near future.
