Now that spring football has concluded for many programs around the country, an influx of talent will likely enter the transfer portal.
Not many expected it to be Baylor quarterback Gerry Bohanon, however. 247Sports’ Chris Hummer reported that Bohanon will be entering the NCAA transfer portal on Wednesday, essentially meaning he lost the quarterback battle with Blake Shapen.
Shapen is talented in his own right, so it’s not losing the competition that’s surprising, but rather when Baylor head coach Dave Aranda made his decision that is. Most head coaches would prefer for both quarterbacks to stay and compete throughout the fall.
Hummer noted that it was likely a good deed on Aranda’s part to announce that decision before the May 1 deadline to allow Bohanon to play elsewhere.
Baylor QB Gerry Bohanon has entered the transfer portal as a grad transfer, @247SportsPortal has learned. He was Baylor's starting QB in 2021 and threw for 2,200 yards and 18 TDs.https://t.co/u5Dns1cWc2

Bohanon led Baylor to a Big 12 title last year, where he played in 12 games and threw for 2,200 yards and 18 touchdowns. Shapen appeared in five games for the Bears, throwing for 596 yards and five touchdowns.
With Bohanon likely out the door, only Oklahoma State, Kansas, TCU and Texas Tech will potentially return a starter at the position this season.
