Bengals should look closely at free-agent RB James Robinson

The Jets will let James Robinson hit the market, which should interest the Bengals.

If the Cincinnati Bengals want to add running backs this offseason, free agency is sure to offer plenty.

The New York Jets just helpfully added to the market, too, with ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reporting the team won’t tender James Robinson.

Robinson, 24, suffered a torn Achilles near the end of the 2021 season and was traded to the Jets. Before that, though, he was the breakout runner in Jacksonville who scored 15 rushing touchdowns over his first two seasons.

A natural fit in the Cincinnati offense as a three-down back, Robinson even caught 49 passes as a rookie. Adding Robinson wouldn’t stop the team from adding another similar back to a new-look committee in the backfield.

Given his age and skill set, a suppressed market at a devalued position could make Robinson a sleeper hit of a signing, especially with Joe Mixon’s fate with the Bengals still a massive question mark.

Here is a full list of running backs headed to free agency.
