Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Sam Hubbard will play through an injury to close the regular season against the Cleveland Browns.
Hubbard needs what is described as “undisclosed offseason surgery” in a new writeup where he reveals the decision to play wasn’t much of a decision at all.
“Didn’t think twice about it. I came this far, I’m playing. I’m finishing the year strong. I wouldn’t have it any other way,” Hubbard said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “I wouldn’t leave my guys hanging. I love being out there. I told them today I’m going to be with them.”
Beyond the obvious stuff, Hubbard goes on to cite the winless mark in the AFC North this year as something he wants to correct, which is fair enough — the Bengals haven’t gone winless in the division since 2002.
While it’s hard to know before injury reports if other injured players like Ja’Marr Chase will suit up, fans can write in Hubbard as a guy they’ll see one last time this season.
