Bears show rumored interest in Jameis Winston, but is it worth it?

The Chicago Bears are in the market for a quarterback. Could Jameis Winston be their missing piece?

The Chicago Bears are in the market for a new quarterback this offseason. There have been rumors of different trades they could make, but if Deshaun Watson isn’t available for them, could Jameis Winston be their option?

The chances of Winston coming to Chicago have to be slim, as Sean Payton has already said that Winston would be there to compete for the starting role when Drew Brees does retire. The belief is Brees will retire this offseason. If he does, the job has to be open for Winston, right?

It could be, but nothing is certain in the NFL. If Winston came to Chicago though, he would be plugged in as their starting quarterback. The Bears have rumored interest in the 27-year-old quarterback. They’re among a couple of teams that could make a move for him.

The question becomes, would Winston be worth it? There’s no question he will have a chance to be a starting quarterback in the NFL again, but it doesn’t seem like the right fit in Chicago. After throwing 30-interceptions in 2019, teams have shown a lack of interest in him. The lack of interest in why he was the Saints’ backup quarterback last season.

Some fans clamored for Winston to sign with the Bears last season to compete with Mitchell Trubisky for the starting role this past season. Of course, Chicago opted to trade for Nick Foles, but the $1.1 million contract for Winston was cheaper than Foles.

For the Bears, the turnovers from Winston won’t help them win games. With a career losing record and no starts in the playoffs, that isn’t an upgrade from Trubisky. He is an upgrade from Foles though, who is 2-5 as Chicago’s starting quarterback.

If the Bears can’t land Watson, Winston could be a serious consideration. He has a big arm and has a lot of talent, but the turnovers could be the reason he is passed on by many teams again this offseason.
