Barton and Bud: Could Texas win the ACC if they replaced Clemson?

On the most recent Barton and Bud Podcast, they tackle the question of could the Longhorns win the ACC if they replaced Clemson?

With the lack of sports going on in the world, especially at the college level it seems like each media outlet is focusing on hypotheticals. Even our Locked on Longhorns Podcast dove into a few such as what if Colt McCoy didn’t get injured against Alabama? What if Vince Young returned in 2006?

On 247Sports’ podcast Barton and Bud, they dove into a few what if scenarios in regards to taking one team and replacing them in another conference. In this mailbag, the thought of Texas A&M to the PAC 12, Oregon to the Big Ten and Ohio State to the SEC. All of which are fun conversations to be had. Of course the Texas Longhorns were brought up.

Could Texas win the ACC if they replaced Clemson?

This would be an intriguing scenario considering some of the storylines. The first one in particular would pit Tom Herman’s Longhorns against Mack Brown’s Tar Heels. A Texas-UNC battle would bring some eyeballs especially in the state of Texas. The last successful head coach in Texas history against the man trying to bring the Longhorns back to the top.

The two hosts agreed on one thing, the Longhorns would be the favorite to win the ACC. When it comes to betting on them winning they both stated they would take the field. Mostly due to the scrappiness of the teams currently in the ACC, which one would they slip up against. An interesting point of the conversation dealt with taking Texas and putting them in a conference that had more of a defensive presence. What would the outcome be?

Without the powerhouse Clemson involved in the conversation, it would be hard to bet against Texas. While they have some teams on the rise in the conference, it would be hard to imagine that Texas wouldn’t find themselves near the top. The next part of their discussion regarded where would the Longhorns do best if they replaced the best team in that perspective conference. The answer was the PAC 12.

Given the teams in the PAC 12 and not appearing like there is a top 10 worthy squad who could challenge for a College Football Playoff spot, that would be an interesting season for the Longhorns. Sports fans almost saw that very thing happening 10 years ago when the thought of expansion was brought up.

If you had to pick one conference for the Longhorns to go to. Where is that and do they win the conference championship?
