Ball family to resume construction of personal, private basketball facility

After being forced to stop construction due to a lack of permits, the Ball family will continue building a private basketball facility.

The Ball family was informed earlier this month that construction on its personal basketball facility could continue with some stipulations. Originally under construction without permits, the family was granted permission to continue building the facility by the Chino Hills Planning Commission during a May 5 meeting with the provision that the building not be used for commercial use.

The location of the personal gymnasium is where a tennis court used to be on the property. While tearing down the tennis courts without permits was acceptable, building a new facility was not. Construction on the new building had begun with the placing of footings and slabs before the family was forced to stop.

He also revealed that, like many other aspects of the family’s lives, the construction of the building was disorganized and led to many of the problems.

“This was a mess two years ago and you guys came in and saved the family,” Woods said. “The Ball family had a contractor they had to fire and now they’re on track.”

Another interesting takeaway from the meeting was the reveal that Lonzo Ball was the property owner of the 16,755 square feet of land that includes the family’s three-story mansion,
