Auburn baseball jumps two spots in latest USA Today Coaches Poll

Auburn enters the top-20 for the first time this season after earning wins over Samford and UConn last week.

The Auburn Tigers continued their torrid stretch to the season last week as [autotag]Butch Thomspon[/autotag]’s squad won yet another series.

Auburn’s series win over UCONN, paired with the blowout win over Samford, was good enough to jump the Tigers to No. 20 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

The Tigers jumped current SEC opponent South Carolina, who fell from No. 16, and future SEC opponent Texas, who fell from No. 13 after a 0-3 week at the Astros Foundation College Classic.

Auburn’s 3-1 week was highlighted by a 12-3 blowout of Samford on Tuesday at Plainsman Park. The Tigers then split a Saturday doubleheader against UConn before the potent Auburn lineup came back alive in an 8-2 win on Sunday.

The 9-2 Tigers had two mid-week games against Air Force on the schedule this week, but will only play one because of Tuesday’s contest getting canceled due to rain.

10-2 Atlantic Sun opponent Austin Peay then comes to town this weekend in what could be a great series. The Governors have mostly played small schools to open their season but did pick up a pair of wins over SEC opponent Mississippi State.
