Arizona State’s Sam Leavitt fires shot at Texas’ Quinn Ewers ahead of CFP Clash

The sophomore Arizona State quarterback shared his thoughts during his media availability on Saturday.

Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt is gearing up for one of the biggest games of his career as the Sun Devils take on the No. 5 Texas Longhorns on Wednesday in the second round of the College Football Playoff.

The sophomore quarterback had an interesting media availability on Saturday, implying he was the better quarterback, compared to Texas’ Quinn Ewers.

This marks Arizona State’s debut in the newly expanded playoff format, while Texas enters the game fresh off a 38-24 victory over Clemson in the opening round.

Both Quinn Ewers and Sam Leavitt have delivered standout performances throughout the 2024 season, and the comparisons between the two have only intensified ahead of the playoff showdown. This is the first season Leavitt has appeared in more than ten games, compared to Quinn Ewers three.

Leavitt, speaking at a press conference on Saturday, addressed the prospect of facing Ewers head-on.

“I’ve watched him for a fair amount of time now,” he said. “I’m just excited for the opportunity. People keep counting me out since day one, and I’m gonna go prove why I’m the better quarterback.”

The sophomore completed 192 of 304 passes for 2,663 yards, 24 touchdowns, and just five interceptions, earning a 159.5 passer efficiency rating. Ewers on the other hand is a third-year quarterback with 29 starts and 7,378 career passing yards, ranking sixth in program history, and 56 career touchdown passes, ranking fifth. He holds a 20-game streak with a passing touchdown, tied for the longest among active FBS players.
