Texas’ 2020 season got off to a dazzling start, defeating UTEP 59-3. Led by a historic today from quarterback Sam Ehlinger, not many teams had a more impressive opening night than the Longhorns.
The first regular-season AP poll has been released, with Texas jumping into the top 10. Beginning the season at No. 14, the Longhorns are now ranked No. 9.

As for the rest of the Big 12, two other teams made the top 25. Oklahoma (No. 3) is the highest-ranked conference team and Oklahoma State (No. 11) also makes a major jump. Iowa State drops out of the poll after losing at home to Louisiana.
For the first time, no Big Ten or Pac-12 teams were in the poll. Both conferences have postponed their seasons, possibly coming back in the spring. Four teams ranked ahead of Texas in the preseason poll are now unranked.
