Defensive back Anthony Cook tweeted Thursday night he will not be playing for Texas next season. The junior has asked everyone to “respect” his decision.

Nobody is quite sure if Cook will be entering the transfer portal or if he is done playing football. A talented player, he was expected to be a key contributor to the Texas secondary in 2020.

Cook had been with the Longhorns since 2018. A four-star prospect out of high school, the cornerback played in 25 games, starting in seven of them.

Texas’ secondary has taken a major hit today, as BJ Foster broke his hand punching his car bumper. A unit that struggled last season, Caden Sterns, D’Shawn Jamison, and Jalen Green will now have a bigger role than they did yesterday.

Replacing Cook will not be easy, but Chris Adimora could see an increase in playing time. The sophomore played in all 13 games last season, having 10 tackles and one pass break up.
