Andrew Vorhees, injured during the NFL scouting combine but still able to bench press with one leg on the ground, is a fascinating story entering the 2023 NFL draft. He won’t be able to play in 2023, and injuries will naturally scare off a lot of NFL teams. Vorhees had a chance to be a second-round pick before his combine injury. Now he’s almost certain to be a later-round pick on Day 3 of the draft this coming Saturday. How far will he fall, though?
Will a team with the ability to stash some draft assets, particularly on its offensive line, take Vorhees and bank on a recovery in time for the 2024 season? Vorhees’ ability to bench press even while injured might impress a team enough to take him sooner rather than later on Day 3.
It would not be shocking to see Vorhees fall all the way to a pick near No. 200. Therefore, a recent CBS Sports mock draft having Vorhees go at No. 159 to the Detroit Lions seems like a very good outcome for the USC star if that scenario becomes reality.
Vorhees would go off the board roughly 100 picks before the end of the draft. He would be able to join former Trojan Amon-Ra St. Brown in Detroit. Vorhees would probably accept this outcome if it happens. We’ll see what unfolds this weekend.
