Andrew Jones hits game-winner, Texas defeats West Virginia 72-70

Texas continued their hot streak and defeated West Virginia in the final second of the game.

After trailing for the majority of the contest, Texas closed the game out strong to defeat West Virginia 72-70 in Morgantown on Saturday.

It was the Andrew Jones show. The Longhorns were trailing the Mountaineers by one point with three seconds remaining. Courtney Ramey drove to the basket and kicked it out to Jones, who drained a clutch three-pointer with one second remaining.

On top of sinking the game-winner for Texas, Jones also reached an individual milestone during the contest. He became the 39th player in school history to reach 1,000 points.

Jones’ story continues to amaze us all. On this day three years ago, Texas head coach Shaka Smart announced that Jones had been diagnosed with leukemia and would leave to seek treatment.

It’s now become one of the most feel-good stories across all sports.

The Longhorns are now 4-0 in Big 12 play. Ramey led Texas with 19 points and six assists, including the crucial assist in the final moments of the game. Freshman forward Greg Brown recorded 14 rebounds.

No. 4 Texas will host No. 18 Texas Tech in Austin on Jan. 13.
